Woohoo! We can now get down to the 20 m scale zoom-level and not just the 50 m scale zoom-level (sorry, I don't have any better way to describe it, but anyone who uses it regularly should know or be able to figure out what I mean).

October is a nice time to have footage since the vegetation isn't crazy but it's not bare looking either - and it's kind of colourful.

Looking at the Park & Ride lots, the imagery looks to have been taken on a weekend, and probably not Thanksgiving since retail parking lots are well-used. I think it was on a Saturday since two O-Trains are in operation (the southbound train is already at Carling whilst the northbound has just left Confederation... they could add another station at Gladstone...). Time of day looks to be right around noon.

Do you have any idea why they're moving the station at all and why here? If anyone had any ambitions of using the CP Belleville Sub for passenger service to Perth or beyond this station is still in the wrong place (it would have to be even further out of town, beyond the Hwy 15 crossing). It seems really retrograde to pull an Ottawa or Kingston on yet another community.
The Smiths Falls planner I interviewed had no idea why it was being moved. The track work you found has since been completed, as with the future platforms. The only parts not built yet are the station (which will consist of 5 seats, a vending machine, water fountain, and washroom), and 21 parking spots. They could do the track work before site plan approval because rail lines are a federal jurisdiction.

Saw the Google Car driving around the Herongate area today. At last glance, he pulled into the Leon's Parking lot. I thought they were done photographing Ottawa. Anybody know or want to speculate why they might still be driving around Ottawa.

Updating bad pictures perhaps, and/or collecting more rural areas not covered well (they mostly only have the main arterials in the rural areas).

Maybe we are getting upgraded to 3D, like Montreal.

I was just looking at Bank & Maclaren on street view.

It appears that the Google car drove right under an excavator

I ran into the Google Street View driver at a parking lot of a Starbucks today. They have been updating and expanding on Ottawa etc since April and are due to wrap up in a week. From there they have to proof the imagery and eventually it will get uploaded. The driver I spoke to had been assigned along with another fellow, the area from the west edge of Montreal, to Sudbury to Kingston.

Interesting fellow and car.

A friend of mine texted me to say that the Google Street View car was in the Byward Market this morning (8:00 am or so) and was all covered in tinsel etc for Christmas. I thought they were done in Ottawa for the season due to reduced light intensity, shorter hours of daylight.

If you check the Google Street View images, they seem to have been updated and are dated 2011 and 2012.
Notable changes that you'll see include the new Highway 7 to Carleton Place, the newly opened parts of Autoroute 50 (except for the part that just opened this week) as well as the addition of many rural roads that had not been done in the past.

Thanks for the update! Here are a few highlights I've seen so far... I'll post some project updates in the threads if I get a chance

-updates as late as October 2012
-they've covered in a number of power centres and other commercial areas: here's a gas station plaza in Kanata http://goo.gl/maps/sOtZH
-some private residential roads have been mapped. Residents didn't to mind though
http://goo.gl/maps/MgIcD
-a lot more dead end roads have been included - curbside pickup even in the boonies http://goo.gl/maps/5iFTf

Great. Just great.

Now I don't know what my neighbourhood looked like 4 years ago anymore.
