ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Come sail away with me

Hello again. Let's do that city photo thing again. This time, in a smaller city. One of my favorite ones around.

Last July, glowrock and I rode out from DC to Annapolis, after he'd come down from Pittsburgh while I was visiting friends in Northern Virginia.

Let's embark on this adventure from one beautiful day on Chesapeake Bay.

Annapolis is really pretty. I like what you´ve shown. Love the red brick buildings and the pavement in the historic centre. Annapolis looks very picturesque

Nice pictures. Annapolis is a great city! It looks like you almost made it into Eastport, which is another nice neighborhood, but is more working-class, rougher, and relatively newer and less historic.

Actually crossed the bridge, but didn't go far and I don't think any of the few shots I took over there made the cut (for now, I still have frames I've never edited and might be worth adding)

The crab cake is at Chick & Ruth's Delly (sic) which is also visible in one frame up there. The people in front of it are not walking past it. They're waiting to be seated. Very small and crowded in there. It's worth such minor hassles. Also, this was about 3pm, not lunch, not dinner, and I didn't have to eat anything else for the rest of the day.

I'm now living within a (long) day's drive from Maryland. I'm doing my best to find my way back out that way sometime this year.

New thread tomorrow. Haven't decided yet where it will be. I have options. Stay tuned

Wonderful tour. I'd love to move to the old town area of Annapolis if I could afford it. There's lots of tourists, but plenty of quiet side streets with much less activity. Maybe I'll hit the lottery some day.

Looks delightful. I'm curious as to how well-connected Annapolis is to DC and Balitmore. Looking it up on Google maps, it appears to be about 30 miles from either one.

Great stuff - I have relatives near here and love visiting this city. Great to see lots of details that I've missed - good excuse for another visit!

There is no rail - in fact, Annapolis is the only state capital east of the Mississippi River that currently has no rail transport of any sort, passenger or freight. There are rail trails where the old lines were. But, if you don't want to drive to Baltimore or DC - and let's go ahead and say this, you don't want to drive to DC, if you can help it. Maryland's transit authority runs a bus from Annapolis to both Baltimore and somewhere in Md. DC suburbs. Probably Silver Spring. There, you just connect with the WMATA system and you're off wherever you want to be. Don't know where in Annapolis those buses depart from. I'm guessing likely around that visitors center and garage where this thread started.
