That looks like an insane amount of formwork going on in there. I am assuming it is because of the difficulties attributed with making the undulating balconies?

So you can really see rebar undulating according to the balcony shapes? And thanks for the updates.

It looks like they've got some kind of whole-floor self-climbing mechanism here, they're not using shoring poles. It'd be nice if someone caught them on camera as they're taking out the blue horizontal support bridges and installing them on the next floor...

The use of epoxy rebar on a residential (ok, hotel) floor is perplexing.

Could you explain what you mean by "epoxy re-bar". I'm curious.

The green rebar is covered with an anti-corrosion coating. It's usually used for parking garage structures and roads (e.g., the Wacker reconstruction), but not for residential or even balconies.

Maybe there is something different going on here: without a heat bridge isolating the balconies, the temperature differential between the inside and the huge exposed outside perimeter will stress the concrete plates too much? And/or the temperature differential stresses will impact the core due to the differing size of the floor plates (which will behave differently) when there are no transition floors to hold all this together? So maybe the epoxy rebar has to do with [reducing] heat conductivity???

^ No, sorry, but the heat bridging argument doesn't make sense. I'm sure they speced it just to add extra protection / longevity to the exposed balconies. I certainly would have.

Plus, no one uses the fancy European balcony heat bridge isolators in the US anyway.

In defense of the podium (did I really just say that??), it's not as big in person as it looks in renders. In the picture below, the tower on the right is hard against Columbus. The podium section on the left with the red tower crane is basically done and will be even with Columbus, providing the street-park link.
There will only be about 100 feet of actual podium along Columbus. I don't think that's enough to kill streetlife.

^Yeah, Columbus Dr doesn't have much of a street life to begin with. Aqua will actually fill a big hole in the street and provide pedestrian traffic.

Considering the fact that they haven't even started construction on the podium, I think you're going to be surprised at how massive it will be. . . it will come down as far south to line up with the southern edge of the Fairmont. . . the renderings are pretty awfull. . . we'll see how it turns out in the end. . .

Sorry, forgot to mention earlier - the ground floor level on Columbus will have a new, outsider, high-concept restaurant, from a very well-known San Francisco restauranteur (his name escapes me; too much wacky tabacky -oops!), BUT on the southwest corner of the building, there will be a - brace yourselves - CVS (not joking - but then again, perhaps that's a good thing hmmm??).

Wow,

I really like how it looks so far. I like the rounded corners of the balconys.

So, just to clarify, we are looking at the two level podium up to the blue tarp, than above that, the amenities level, and then 2 floors of residential?

And they are currently pouring the 3rd level of residential balconys?

Thanks,

Asheesh

^^^ I believe that is correct. Nice catch on the rounded corners. Also, you can see where the balconies extend outwards in the scaffolding if you look closely.
