Toronto has made major inroads in as little as the last five years. There's still too much love for concrete but, the standards have been raised. I feel there's a new found understanding within many parts of the government. I am curious how things will look in 20 years time. Maintenance is a huge concern. The city's residents still need to learn in appreciating nice things by no destroying them. There are the other parts of the government that need to learn too. A $80 black plastic garbage can completely destroy the ambiance created in a multi-million dollar park rejuvenation project.

Just streetviewed that Charles St park and I kind of like how the simple earthy 70s style pebbledash water fountain has managed to survive all these decades. The coffee bar, dafodils, and cherry blossoms in the spring are also a nice touch.

From what I recall , Berzcy Park went with the cheapest possible option and uses plastic household garbage and recycle bins on wheels in what's otherwise a signature park.

I hate those trash cans. Design failure.

This is Lombard Street, between Richmond and Adelaide Streets, looking west toward the CBD. I took this yesterday.

Looks more like a valley than a canyon.

That stretch of Yonge Street could end up a jumbled mess if they continue to vary lot by lot how far back the towers are built. You can see on the right how Five Condos and Wellesley on the Park were built a good 30m from Yonge. No towers will be built in that space flush with the street. Couple that with varying degrees of step backs in other buildings and this stretch could potentially look awful.

They don't necessary help the skyline's looks from a distance, but in situ rhey do create interesting landscapes.
