Premium parking at Rogers Place could come at a premium price

BY GORDON KENT, EDMONTON JOURNAL JULY 11, 2015 8:02 AM

EDMONTON - Oilers fans could face a slapshot to their wallets next year if they want to leave their vehicles in comfort at Rogers Place.

A survey the team sent to season ticket holders this week asks if they’d pay $35 a game for heated, underground parking a five-minute walk, or 400 metres, from the arena.

Five other options range from $30 for above-ground parking within a five-minute walk, to $15 for a surface stall five to 10 minutes, or up to 800 metres, away.

Welcome to the 'ICE District'.

Just back from the pre-launch with Mr. Katz himself, apparently Gretz is in town for the office at noon.

Whoa, what? Video screen on the winter garden?

'Ice District' is pretty predictable but fitting I suppose.

Interesting. I wonder if they will be smart enough to show the Oilers on game nights.

Think team Canada games, playoffs, Olympics etc... regular home games, I doubt it.

Roger's place public art, remaining 3 pieces announced and believe it or not all 4 are great!

This is in addition to the primary piece by Alex Janvier.

Is that very dated looking little casino going to be replaced with something a little more impressive that harmonizes with the Ice District plan?

Rogers Place construction on time, on budget, officials say

BY DAVID HOWELL, EDMONTON JOURNAL

EDMONTON - Project officials were beaming Tuesday as they showed off the downtown arena quickly taking shape on 104th Avenue.

“It’s like showing baby pictures,” said a smiling Rick Daviss, executive director of the downtown arena project for the City of Edmonton.

“It’s been extremely satisfying to hear the buzz and the excitement ... that’s being generated by the scope and the pace that this development is taking.”

Work on the $480-million arena and adjoining $56.5-million Winter Garden is proceeding on budget and remains on schedule for its planned fall 2016 opening, Daviss said.

Construction began in March 2014.
