Designed in a radial plan around a central atrium which forms the social heart of the building, the unique form provides a flexibility which allows the 'arms' to be extended or additional wings to be added in the future. A structural grid with limited internal columns permits the moving of departments as clinical requirements evolve and develop over time.
The hospital looks out across a rural landscape which will be enhanced with therapeutic gardens and parklands. The complex includes a 120-bed main building and support buildings including a hotel, staff accommodation and a supermarket. The three-storey main hospital provides 56 single rooms, four 6-bed bays and 20 VIP rooms. The clinical facilities will accommodate three operating rooms, an emergency department, an imaging department, specialist outpatient clinics, a paediatric and neo-natal intensive care unit and a women's hospital.
