PITTSBURGH | UPMC Presbyterian Inpatient Tower | 288 FT | 17 Floors

UPMC (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) is Pennsylvania's largest employer. UPMC will construct the largest medical facility in Pittsburgh's history and will be the largest medical construction project in PA. This tower is on of three "specialty" hospitals focusing on specific ailments. This facility will be the center for organ transplant surgery.

The ground breaking ceremony was held in June and construction is underway.

Slightly surprising this will be bigger than any medical project in Philly, but great to see nonetheless!

The largest hospital project in the state which includes Philadelphia. UPMC is a monster and has a huge presence in PA. In fact UPMC is Pennsylvania’s largest employer. This is one of three specialty hospitals planned for the city of Pittsburgh’s east end neighborhoods.

It's not true though. Wonder where they got their information. This building is 900,000 square feet. Penn's New Patient Pavilion which was just completed is 1.5 million square feet:

Unless they mean the largest hospital project CURRENTLY under construction?

Also, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is planning a 1.3 million square foot tower as well, but site prep on that one won't start until 2023 with construction officially starting in 2024 on this building:

You're right though in that UPMC is the largest healthy network and employer in Pennsylvania.

Currently under construction. The new Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is 1.5 million SQFT as well. This new Hospital is on the site of the former Children's Hospital... Either way this project coupled with others is HUGE for Oakland.

The other 2 big UPMC hospital projects in Pittsburgh:

The Vision & Rehabilitation Hospital is also currently U/C on the UPMC Mercy campus in Uptown:

And the major addition to the Hillman Cancer Center at UPMC Shadyside (photos are gigantic so only sharing links):

The Mercy project is further along. It has progressed from two cranes to one.

wpipkins2, thanks for starting these Pittsburgh threads. I am sure these projects have been discussed in detail in the city's City Compilations thread, but they get much more visibility from dedicated threads on the Highrise Construction forum.

Thanks for the update! If the Hillman Cancer Center is at least 115 ft tall, then it can have its own thread on the Highrise Construction forum. All I know is it has 8 floors.

You are welcome. I will add to the mix once I find the time to do so. There are quite a few projects ramping up. The City Club residential highrise should be starting up soon.

Two cranes in place in less than a week! There is a third crane in the adjacent block as well.

The third crane is for the University of Pittsburgh's arena and sports performance center.
