Billings MT

I was shocked to see no one discussing Billings, I recently discovered the city and saw that it had a compact but nice core. There were some decent aspects of urban design, although it could use some more development.

What is everyone's thoughts and experiences in the city?

Good point! I wonder if its because we don't have any forumers in that area? I go to Billings once a year for work and was just there in February. Cute town with fairly decent growth due to the oil industry but unfortunately I didn't see ANY development going on.

Yeah I didn't see too much development going on, however I figured there must be some due to the economic growth the area has experienced.

Being from a slightly larger oil center, we had quite a bit of development including recently. I would have imagined Billings would have had the same

Hopefully there is some Billings forumers that can chip in, if there is any Billings lurkers step up and fill us in.

Hi, I'm From Billings and I got some news!!! There is a proposal for TWO high-rises One is called the "One Big Sky Center" (I don't know how tall or how many floors it has but it will eclipse the current tallest in Montana...First Interstate Center built in 1985!!!) and the other looks like a 12 story apartment building!!!! The story can be found here at:

Nice! Not only would take the top spot for tallest building in Montana, it would eclipse Idaho's tallest by a foot.

Fantastic News, it took me awhile to check back in on this thread. Oddly enough I was in Great Falls Montana at the time attending a conference in planning.

Project looks very solid in design, I'm rooting for it.

I will likely be headed to Billings for the first time in the next few weeks and am excited to check it out. Any more word on if that project is moving forward? From what I've read on the topic, this project would be a major boon for downtown and likely a catalyst for more growth. Congrats.

exciting news, do you have anymore info on demographic changes? I guess I could look at the census data however want more of an idea from the ground.

Skyrise406
I'm in an oil city north of Billings that is getting just rocked by the downturn in oil price. I'm wondering if Billings is feeling the same pressures. Not with standing the scale difference we are sitting on nearly 15 million sq ft of empty office space and a vacancy rate of 25% in our core. Unemployment is sitting around the 8% mark. it is kinda spooky

Calagary is where Denver was in the mid-80's: getting crushed by the commodity downturn. On the bright side, it's forced oil sand producers to find efficiencies and process improvement that keep them competitive and will make the next boom that much more lucrative.

Im also curious how Billings is doing. Is the economy diversified?

Billings has a very diverse economy. We have everything from tourism to two major medical facilities to education to oil and gas production. More can be found on Billings' Wiki page...

It looks like you also have a new version of the Big Sky Center.
I like this one much better, but I wish they would remove the section that connects the two towers (that's my opinion). I do hope it gets built for you guys, it will make a very nice addition to your skyline.
