That would be cool but they'll probably stick to the girder option.

What are the other two options they're considering? The four photos they posted look like two different views of two of the options.

If you read a little farther down it tells the criteria that was used on the four designs which was then further reduced to the two that you see.

Thanks for pointing that out. Based on what they say it sounds like a strong case can be made for the cable stayed bridge. That option is much more visually appealing and I can see it becoming a landmark for Saskatoon.

I knew the proposed routing was not going to be very far north, but this latest rendition is much closer to the Chief Mistawasis Bridge crossing than I would have thought.

I think there will eventually be a big problem with traffic cutting through neighbourhood collectors in Aspen Ridge to get from McOrmond over to the proposed Blackley Road exit. Traffic heading from University Heights/Willowgrove over to the Saskatoon Freeway might end up taking that route a lot of the time rather than going all the way to Central.

It seems that the odd bean shaped deflection of McOrmond to create the parkway might have some serious traffic consequences once the Saskatoon Freeway is built.

Some news on freeway, some will like some won't. Nature of the beast, sounds like it might be just postponed as that is alot of land to tie up for no reason.

I'm sure that the money the province is saving by not moving ahead with this will still be spent on Saskatoon, or even better, on shoring up the Province's ailing healthcare system...

Reading the article, it appears that it's the planning for Phase 3 that has been postponed indefinitely. The story doesn't seem to discuss any impacts on the planning or development of Phases 1 & 2. Those are the parts that would make the biggest difference to the congestion of Circle Drive. While the Phase 3 portion would service traffic from highways 7 & 14, those highways contribute far less traffic load than highways 11 & 16, which would be impacted by Phases 1 & 2.

They had better build a cable stayed bridge then if they’ve given up on 7 and 14. If they’re planning to move ahead with the east side bypass, some might dub it “The Gateway to P.A.”

It seems to me that grasswood is going to become more thoroughly built out as “country residential”, and the SE freeway would end up being quite useful. But there are so many land use issues with the NE route going through the swale that the whole project just feels unpalatable as a result. Plus how it called for diverting so much heavy traffic down Wanuskewin, and turning Idylwyld north freeway into arterial. Who knows whether it would have worked or not, but it would have taken years and years to properly configure corresponding land uses.

A cable stayed bridge? Across the south saskatchewan? That would look ridiculous.

If you have been paying attention to the project, you would have seen that that is currently the recommended option.

Right you are apparently ... https://saskatoonfreeway.org/river-crossing/

I bet this assessment was done internally at MHI and once a consultant does some real engineering on it the idea gets killed tough.

That many lanes?! I thought this was Saskatoon Ring Road 2.0, not Stony Trail.

It wouldn't surprise me if you're right, but I still hope that it goes ahead. Aside from aesthetics (ridiculous or not), the cable-stayed option would preserve the riverbank much better than a standard girder bridge.

Sure would be nice, but dollars and cents took precedence for all the other bridges

Some exploratory work on the river bank where the proposed bridge would go.

That seems like a bit of a mess between 41 and the Freeway connections.
