It will be a very, very nice terminal. In fact, I am going to go out on a limb and say that the new YWG will be one of thee nicest terminals in the country.

I think it looks sexy!

I can't wait for the other phases to be constructed in the years to come; what an airport it will be oh baby!

Unofficially - Ellis Don will be contractor.

It will do nothing but improve people's first impression of Winnipeg. It may not be the biggest in Canada but it certainly will be one of the nicest, even after only Phase 1.

Was the new airport designed to allow for future expansion? Or will a second terminal be required to handle more than the new airports capacity?

Yes; there is for sure a phase II in the plans, and possibly a phase III. All depending on the amount of passengers who frequent the airport.

There are 3 phases to the new terminal on the books, to be built as the demand calls for. As well ther is alot of additional room for further expansion if demand really starts to happen.

In addition there are plans for expanding the airport hotel and even adding a business centre. The Winnipeg Airport will be massively enhanced with an outlined plan for future expansion. Its going to be awsome!!

EllisDon, interesting. They partnered with ManShield on the bid, IIRC. Looking forward to seeing this built. I believe a hydrant refuelling system is also being built in the apron.

I don't think a set timeline is in place for phases II or III, but there is a definite phase II expansion, and the design is such that the building can be accomodate quite a bit of expansion. And the phase I building will be fairly well utilized right from the time it opens, even a fairly modest addition of flights could keep it full at peak times, so I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the future phases constructed in the not too distant future.

And in other news, United is adding a 3rd flight to Denver starting in May.

I'm curious to know if this decision is due to the competition with Delta's SLC run for flights to other American SW cities.

With the well documented failure of the new terminal in Toronto, due to a complete lack of people friendly amenities.... which is too bad considering the massive tab on such a poorly deisgned building, will Winnipeg JAR be a massive improvement in terms of amenities.

My question is there any fixed plans as far as the layout of the interiour.. ie: retail, restaurants and food court. Any plans for a bar/lounge? With this new terminal coming online what type of amenities will be in place?

It will be interesting to see what the old terminal will look like once they've gutted out the inside. Its actually quite a large building.
