True - you're right. It's the Tex Mex themed bar/restaurant that people here had some opinions about:
https://chicago.eater.com/2017/2/27/...andolph-street

They have a pending permit and 2 others issued in December 2017 and April 2018. It's a historic building, so probably running into some stuff with that..

Great shot! I've never noticed that odd little roof that looks like green tile. What is that - just a mechanical penthouse? Remnant of some past time?

Nope. Not affordable housing on this one like someone tried to say. Residences starting around $800K

That's a handsome design and, by golly, is that retail holding the corner?

^ Nice!

Definitely would like to see more pics of south side development around here (particularly things that aren’t strip malls or gas stations)

That’s because Tex-Mex is one of the world’s worst cuisines, and country music is the world’s worst music.

Where is restaurant row going to move when Randolph Street becomes full of “theme” restaurants anyway?

Tex Mex is terrible. I bet the place doesn't last long.

if youre looking for good mexican food in a place where english is the primary language youre already goofing up

anyway, the building is a shell, im just glad its being restored. Federales does the same dumb schtick. i have no doubt hoards of happy hour office workers will lap it up and pay $12 for melted cheese and Tostitos.

Sadly there is a market in Chicago. Most bars in Lincoln Park and Lakeview are full of people who would love it. That place will be full of bros with Cubs hats and overweight women who drink too much in no time.

Bingo. Don’t forget the big glop of store bought sour cream!

Anyway, rents in the area are probably getting too expensive for any good restaurants that aren’t owned by Soho House, Paul Kahan or Brendan Sodikoff anyway.

I'll do my best to keep my eyes open. I split my time between the city and the south side depending on where I'm resting my head, so I should be able to get some more snaps.

.

There's a market for TexMex food in pretty much every US city no matter how disgusting you find the food. Yes, even here in vaunted NYC there's a market for it.
