Is it easier to dig down in the West Loop? Lower water table, better soil? Or still just as swampy as east of the river?

Here (from what I've observed) is a list of what's happened so far...

Demolition
Grade site to allow for the installation of sheet piles
Install sheet piles
Regrade site to allow for the installation of drilled shafts
Install drilled shafts
Excavate for the foundation of the core
Install temp. bracing on the eastern side of the sheet pile wall
Pour the foundation for the core
Install temp. rakers to support the north/south sheet pile wall using core mat as deadman to anchor the rakers
Excavate below the eastern wall bracing and install bracing on the west end

-Bracing/rakers are temp. because they typically come out once the building can support the basement walls by itself

This site actually has some grade change which is exceedingly rare in Chicago. It appears they are just taking advantage of that to create a partial basement that will be more or less at grade on one corner of the site and a basement on the high corner of the site.

Fancy fencing and construction trailer on site at 1025 w Fulton. Looked like someone was on site walking the lot too, so I think this is new/recent

Take a look at the "Projects" section on Fulton St Co's website. Click on 114 N Aberdeen and then click on the next three from bottom to top. What an absolutely perfect depiction of how truly great this country is. Four steps to become a millionaire in real estate: Start small with a 3-flat, then invest and re-invest and re-invest until you're building a highrise in the most coveted part of town. Make smart decisions and the opportunity is endless in the USA.

What a time to be alive!

Really looking forward to 1100 Fulton and 1025 W Fulton.

Great photo jc5680! I love the view looking east from Fulton Market. By Summer 2020, this vista will be exploding with cranes - One Chicago, 300 N. Michigan, WPS, BMO Tower, and a number of mid-rises on the north east side of FM. Hopefully 900 W and Equinox Tower too.

I agree with that in concept, but a multiple decade timeline is also required. (Unless you have a big load from daddy or take over his operation) Those 4 projects on that website are concurrently underway.

And backed by the (billionaire) Huizenga family... which yes, is the best blueprint to become a millionaire in America. Ha.

^Nice night shot Pitt. Thank you crane, may I have another. I dont think it's been asked in awhile but does anyone know anybody working for the Coyne college site? I've been waiting to see it demoed so the next building can be on its way.

Also staying in that area, shouldn't we be seeing some digging equipment over at K2's brother pretty soon?

Thanks, my hopes are there will be a crane exactly opposite of that on the site.

If I recall, Coyne is on hold because Sterling Bay signed tenants to other projects in the immediate area and will start construction on those. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Barnes & Noble site sells for $61 million, despite 368-unit apartment tower proposal getting shot down

"A developer whose plans to replace a Barnes & Noble bookstore with a 39-story apartment tower were rejected by a Chicago alderman bought the property anyway.

The $61 million deal could foreshadow more rounds of zoning negotiations for the space on the Near North Side, which now contains the bookstore and a Lou Malnati’s pizzeria."

I cant stand the anti height argument in this city...developer pays 61 million for prime site in Chicago and now has to deal with an alderman basically controlling his fate with the zoning change game.

Brendan just sent something out re: the Cassidy Tire redevelopment at 344 N. Canal.
"The proposed project would include a 33-story residential building containing 343 apartments and ground floor commercial space, along with 124 enclosed parking spaces."

Nice. Now if they could only build a highrise in place of those awful buildings directly behind riverpoint.
