hmm, it looks like maybe only a slight uptick in foundation work so far.

but the work remains more steady now at least.

You can't fault JDS for taking its time. They are going to want to do this right. Their first Brooklyn project was a disaster. Remember the Baltic? A below average building in a below average location with oddly over the top finishes. It was the real estate equivalent of a Cadillac Cimarron. They won't make that same mistake twice. Good things are worth waiting for...it will happen, it's just going to take a while.

Exactly. Exactly!!!

This isn't the real-estate equivalent of an American car they are building. They are building the LaFerrari of towers, which is meticulously built for its beauty and aesthetic presence and skyline altering performance.

Quality takes time. Example being Verre or 111 W57th or even 220 CPS, which is still u/c, but a work of art.

If you want GM or Ford towers, look to Kaufman or Sam Chang, but I'll stick with the upper echelon of towers.

Perhaps ironically, these are higher-end apartments rather than ultra luxurious condos. More of a market.

Ok... still a Nissan GTR tower, the affordable super car tower.

LaFerrari is definitely 220 CPS or 111 W 57th, hell... it might even be the Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita.

CAN YOU imagine being one of the affordable lottery candidates for this tower. This tower does have affordable units. Man... some lucky folks. Sadly, supply is low, because the housing lottery truly is a lottery with the poor, poor odds of getting a unit in general. This is city-wide.

It's that landmark that this building rises from.

No, I know what that is. I mean the structure by the sidewalk on the construction side. It looks like a concrete ramp.

Well, it's not a ramp. It appears to be a foundational structure of some sort, but exactly what it is I'm not sure. Seems as if they're working to put in the foundation around it, instead of simply tearing it down, so it must be of some importance. Subway air ventilation, perhaps? Here, again, is the photo from post #780, which gives a better perspective of said structure.

Excavation Continues For SHoP’s Supertall At 9 DeKalb Avenue In Downtown Brooklyn

Quote:
Excavation is progressing at 9 DeKalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn, the site of the borough’s first supertall. The 1,066-foot-tall tower is designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS, which secured $664 million in funding for the project several months ago from Otéra Capital Inc. and Silverstein Capital Partners. The 73-story residential tower will eventually become the tallest structure in Brooklyn, as well as the first tower in the outer boroughs to pass the 300-meter supertall threshold.

The property is located on a triangular plot at the intersection of DeKalb Avenue and Fleet Street. The sharp angle of the site, plus the presence of the adjacent 160-year-old, landmarked Dimes Savings Bank of Brooklyn are making the excavation and foundation work a greater challenge.

Recent photos from above show the geometric layout of the property and the limited amount of free space that machines, materials, and crews are currently working with on site.

I think that is a worker entrance stairwell for the DeKalb subway station (Q, B, R trains). I may be wrong though and it could be a vent.

Thanks for the explanation. For the record, I used "ramp" as descriptive, not an actual ramp.

I think you're right about the subway worker entrance. Doors are clearly visible on the inside of the structure, and the sloping part most likely contains a stairwell.

Yeah, we all knew what you meant. It was I who was a bit lazy in my response. I should have worded it better. A big thank you for asking about the structure because, at some point, we all would have wondered what it was.
