Study: The Banks having $92M impact

DOWNTOWN — Residents, diners and contractors at The Banks development on Cincinnati’s riverfront soon may pump $91.6 million a year into the local economy, a new report shows.

Those dollars, combined with the $556 million impact of more than four years of construction, are contributing sales, property and earnings tax to repay city and county investments of $157.8 million, researchers from the University of Cincinnati Economics Center found.

By 2019 or 2020, The Banks is planned to include another 1,200 residential units and 500,000 additional square feet of retail and restaurants, offices and hotels, contributing $335 million annually to the local economy. A groundbreaking for phase two hasn’t yet been set.

Business Exclusive: Long-awaited facelift for PNC Tower's annex finally coming to fruition

DOWNTOWN — The tall and stately PNC Tower, lit up nightly in white, often casts a shadow on its low-profile neighbors.

With its classic, colonnade pyramid top, designed by the famed New York architect Cass Gilbert, the massive 31-story tower is more notable than the nondescript eight-story structure beside it on Vine Street.

It’s that shorter building to the south, though – the 99-year-old tower’s own annex – that soon will get a $15 million facelift aimed at elevating its status on Cincinnati’s skyline.

Plans revealed first to The Enquirer show 309 Vine as the cornerstone of a new and improved Third Street, promising life again in an area once considered the heart of downtown.

He’s already sent proposals to companies seeking a total of 120,000 square feet. As soon as leases are signed, demolition on the interior spaces will begin.

Mercer Commons construction to begin

New residences, commercial space and a massive parking garage will begin to rise in late June at 13th and Vine streets, kicking off the next phase of development in Over-the-Rhine.

3CDC vice president of development Chad Munitz said the purchase of Boots Alley would happen June 18th and construction would begin soon after. The garage is scheduled to open in spring 2013. The residential and commercial space will open next summer. The condos and townhomes will range in price from $145,000 to $380,000.

In other news, people with inside information on Dunnhumby's new headquarters are saying that it will only be 8-10 stories, and they they are currently trying to decide on the cladding. Gensler is the architect.

I was really hoping for something taller. Hopefully 3CDC will decide to incorporate residential into the plan.

Christ Hospital to start $265M expansion in June

Christ Hospital will start construction in June on a $265 million expansion and improvement project at its main campus in Mount Auburn.

The development will include a 332,000-square-foot facility dedicated to orthopedic and spine care, just south of the main hospital. The Business Courier broke the news about the proposed project in June 2010.

76-unit Delta Flats to start soon, but some pan design

Construction should begin soon on Delta Flats, a 76-unit market-rate apartment development on the northwest corner of Columbia Parkway and Delta Avenue.

Towne Properties and Al. Neyer, Inc. are seeking a City grant and loan package of $1.3 million for the $8 million project, which they hope will attract young professionals and raise the viability of the nearby Columbia Square development.

The project, registered with the U.S. Green Building Council as LEED for Homes Multi-Family 1.0, is scheduled for completion next summer.

Hyatt Regency Cincinnati to undergo $17M renovation

The Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Cincinnati will undergo a $17 million renovation.

The city of Cincinnati is selling its ground lease on the downtown property to New York-based Lamco LLC, a subsidiary of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. , for $2.1 million, according to a city news release. The city will put in the remaining $1.55 million of the property value to the deal. In exchange, all 485 rooms, public spaces and hotel support areas will be upgraded and renovated.

Fifth and Race project envisioned as newest skyline jewel

DOWNTOWN — Plans revealed Thursday for Downtown’s most high-profile undeveloped site now include a tower up to 30 stories high, grabbing Fifth and Race a prime spot on Cincinnati’s skyline.

Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. hopes to build up to 20 stories of 200 apartments atop a headquarters for dunnhumbyUSA. Parking garages and a street level full of restaurants, entertainment venues and apparel stores also would occupy the building, replacing a vast parking lot there now.

The building is much taller than originally announced in February, filling a gap in the sky between tall neighbors like the 21-story Macy’s headquarters, 31-story Hilton Netherland Hotel, 32-story Millennium and 23-story Hyatt Regency.

WOW!!! That's awesome! It's in a really a nice spot in the skyline, and fills that hole perfectly. What program did you use?

I just did this in Google Earth.
Roughed in some overlapping footprints and extracted them for elevation.

Not the most accurate thing, but good for doing really quick visualizations.
