Miami 2008 - Atlantis Rises Again!

Being that all of these photos are mine, I am compelled to add at this point that a digital photograph is copyrighed by law from the moment it is taken by the photographer as the photographer possesses the memory card as proof of its origin. Any use of a photographer's pictures for monetary gain entitles the photographer to a share of the profits

The photographs that seem to have been taken from a helicopter in the middle of downtown Miami where actually taken from the roof of the 625 feet tall Bank of America tower. I was given VIP treatment being one of the photographers working on Miami the Magic City.

Ultralight Tour

A rainstorm moved in right after takeoff, which made this a lot more difficult with the turbulence. I hadn't planned to do the extended tour over South Beach (which costs me an extra 25 bucks), but we had to in order to dodge the storm. A lot of pics came out blurred, but I just kept shooting trying to get as many as I could that worked.

This building on the left is where I used to live on South Beach at 10th and West Avenue

Ultralight Tour (cont'd)

Last edited by NewAtlantisMiami; Aug 18, 2008 at 9:47 PM. Reason: I had this last pic photoshopped to take out some of the blur.

Wow! Looks like a lot of new condos have gone up since I was last there 3 or 4 years ago!

The boom in Miami is unprecedented. Great photos.

Thanks, man! And we're not done yet. We have office towers on the way now. The boom here wasn't as big as Dubai or Hong Kong, but it could well be remembered as the biggest one-time building in American skyscraper history in terms of how much made it to construction all at once. I know because I've studied skyscraper architecture and history for over 30 years.

If you haven't been here in the past 3 years, the city is almost totally unrecognizable as Miami. You have to hunt for Bank of America (which I was on the top of yesterday), Wachovia, and the Four Seasons in the skyline to know it's Miami!

Amazing images! Indeed the skyline of Miami has been altered quite quickly. It now takes the title 3rd largest skyline in the U.S, correct ?

I would love to see a comparison photo from say 2000 from the exact same vantage point as one of the photos in the first set.

This is the best I can do. This was the view from my 15th floor bayview South Beach apartment in the summer of 1998. I have mailed this photograph to the current residents asking if I could come up to snap a comparison pic. So far, I haven't heard anything and that was almost a month ago.
