New Thread Title

So technically the new thread title is Sacramento Capitol Grand Tower 965'/ 70 floors... Soo Sweet Guess we got that 800 foot plus tower we were discussing last year when 301 was progressing so well... Just not from John Saca but Mo M ??? of course only if Cal Med Assoc. is way on board with this, & some big pocket $$$ source.
What a twist of fate it would be indeed if Mo gets this version built & 301 ends up in a stalled out CALPERS redesign ( God I hope not ).

Dale - they have got to build it first! Seems a lot of the projects are in limbo right now :-(

Benny - Are you referring to Mo Mohanna? He does not own the loan on 301CM. It's a guy named Joseph Mohamed

Actually there's less limbo this week than there has been in the past couple. Especially since all of the movement has been in the right direction...

601 CM in escrow with a secured city loan... Hopefully Aura can begin construction in the next 30 days, should Nassi close the construction loan that (he claims) is locked up... (we'll see)

500 CM is cleared for construction and this one is privately financed and is already somewhat u/c (with the retaining wall) I imagine this one will be on the fast track..

621 u/c

CalSTRS u/c

The big question mark is 301 CM??? Brandon believes we will hear something this week...

Maybe one of the moderators can update the thread title to reflect the change in height etc.....

^ Yes, a mod could change it, but I believe it would be more truthful to say 70 floors- 771'/965' to spire.

Capitol Grand (in-color)

These are photos of the renderings that were given to me on 11 x 17 sheets
of paper. I wanted to scan them but they are just to big.

Anyway, like I have said before, the NEW Capitol Grand rendering that is
nearly finished with the EIR process is 965' to the top of the spire. To the
top of the structure is 771' and the spire on top rises up 194' to the final
height of 965'. To meet parking requirements with the city the tower has
7 of above ground parking and 6 below. The below grade parking would go
down 75' and have slurry walls of 3 feet thick surrounding the hole.

My only real complaint at this point is the look of the base at the street
level. It has a bunker quality about it... could use a little work.

The Tower would use 5 different types of stone, 2 different types of glass,
2 different types of metal and 3 different types of concrete. I think that
pretty impressive for a tower of this size.

The big question... will it be built???

Great work Mike

Now, if you could update the first page of this tread with the new render that would be perfect!

Wow, i liked the first design a lot, but more height and a crown/spire is just up my alley! I'd be nice if they put just a tad more effort into decorating the top, but as stated above, the rendering isn't a final apparently. Great none the less...

The round building, as some of you may recall, was supposed to be a Ritz Carlton. And then, of course, the recession hit....

Thanks for finding and posting that pic; I remember that proposal. I still think that combo of buildings makes an excellent block. I've always been a fan of mansard roofs, and that tiered design is awesome!

BTW, what happened to the idea of lighting the cal epa building on the top; i swear that was in the orginal design, and when the hell are they going to light ziggurnat. I'm glad you are in town making a splash, we need more like you! Please dont go back to nyc although im sure its tempting; im getting the itch for another visit.

Ya, baby, bring it on, build it, damn it!

Love all 965 feet of it! Except, make it all glass, think the Swiss built London Bullet. Too much concrete at the top and bottom.

Members of the Old City Assoc and Nimbys can be tortured by having them walk the plank from the roof of this building once they are found guilty for breaking one of their own stupid laws. (just kidding)

Glass or concrete doesn't really matter that much at this time...we really need something of this height especially with the towers being where they are right now.

Happy! That's a big ass proposal. Good to see they've refined the design and essentially lessened the mansard. Sure, it has its place on 8 story street wall buildings, but mansards on a tower are rarely a good idea (I have the same opinions about domes).

It's really unfortunate though that the building is a square. Imagine a tower of this height with a narrow side facing J Street (ala Park Tower in Chicago). THAT would look sweet.
