I shot this on Friday (among others that I probably won't get to for a couple of weeks)...this tower is marvelous...it is a wonderful anchor to the south end of the Charlotte skyline...

Concrete Supply Co. did the concrete.... but they are done as far as I know. Steel from here on out.
The concrete is still being poured for the 6 floor Mint Museum. Last I saw I think there were starting on floor 5. On the main tower steel will taper up to the spire. And by spire, I mean handle.
There has been a lot of debate about whether the condo tower portion of the project is still going up or if it is on hold/canceled. The condo tower is planned to be built atop the Mint Museum. The Mint Museum is supposed to be 6 floors, but in the above photo rebar and forms are going up for walls on the 7th floor. Still no official word yet.
Front of the Mint Museum.
Bechtler Art Museum is on the right, and the Knight Theater is behind it. That's a styrofoam placeholder for a sculpture.
Thank you for the update! One of my favorites under construction. Only two more floors until work starts on the handle. Early reports from the GC said it would top-out in March.
Duke Energy will be moving its headquarters to the tower formerly known as Wachovia Corporate center. The tower will now be called Duke Energy Center. Duke Energy will be the largest tenant, and will occupy 21 floors. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/bre...ry/562828.html
I also love the last photo! The Vue will have a dramatic impact on the skyline. Unless the time-line for construction has changed, we should see the handle take shape this month. I remember suggesting Duke Energy lease the remaining space and replace their older 1980's building with something better a few months ago. It is good to see an energy company's name on the city's second tallest. Their logo will also look great on the handle. From the articles, it appears Duke will keep their old building though.

So since the condo tower is cancelled and this tower has a new name, can a mod change the thread title?
BTW, InitialD, I've been totally enjoying your progress photos of this tower. This tower really impressed me when I saw it in November and I'm eagerly awaiting the completion of the upper portion.

So the condo tower is officially cancelled. Could someone confirm this for me? I was hoping that it was still a go, but this economy may preclude its realization for the forseeable future.

Officially the condo tower is on hold. This is what has been stated in the Observer and elsewhere, so there's hope for its construction if/when the economy recovers.
