Easily one of the best photo threads I've ever seen.

It takes major talent to turn "ugly" into "beautiful"

Wow...from the looks of it, Hamilton makes more steel than the Pittsburgh area does now....(Pittsburgh only has a couple furnaces in the Mon Valley Works, formerly the Edgar Thomson Works, and some Allegheny International stainless steel mills. So Hamilton is the new "Steel City"???

Hamilton has always been "Steeltown, Canada"
The steel industry (and other industry) is declining here too, just more slowly than in Pittsburgh.

Nice thread, but its terrible living in the North End. Kieth Neighborhood. When I lived there, we couldnt open our windows in the summer cause it smelled so bad. And the walls of our house were caked with dirt and filth. No joke.

Random bump, we don't see enough of this aspect of the urban landscape.

Always love this thread. Industrial port cities always feel more real and sturdy to me.

Yeah, there is something substantial about them when you've grown up in one. The evidence of their raison d'être is there for all to see, nothing abstract about them. Though these days Hamilton employs more people in health and services.

Growing up I didn't pay any attention to smells in the air, and later on when I lived in Hamilton I didn't really notice it so much, but now that I'm living outside Hamilton I do notice it sometimes when I visit. Though the decline in industrial activity has meant cleaner air, from all reports.

Great selection, flar. You really know how to capture a place.
