The first actually looks like one of those dreamy renderings.

To answer your question^ IMO.. this tower and the Wilshire Grand are not even of the same caliber.

I think this one is more comparable to Library Tower.

And that is a funky camera lens you used, it makes everything look so wide and squat, look how wide the Millennium tower looks in the first one.

^ Neither Wilshire Grand and Salesforce are groundbreaking by any means but both are nice towers that fit nicely in each skyline.

IMO Wilshire Grand is overdesigned. There's a restrained elegance in the design of Salesforce and Library-US Bank towers that I believe will prove more ageworthy than Wilshire Grand.

Agreed that they're both nice, but nothing too special. I do like salesforce more overall, but I love the lighting on Wilshire grand...i'm a sucker for shiny lights. I can't wait to see the Salesforce lighting system, and what kind of of cool stuff they manage to do with it.

I was gonna say: "How can you compare something to nothing (yet)?" They are certainly spending a lot of effort and probably time--installing that could be the reason for some of the delay closing in the top--on the Salesforce lighting. It may or may not be spectacular.

I came into downtown SF from the south on 280 last week. OMG! Man, forget it! I've driven into downtown LA many times, but SF is far more impressive now. There's no debate on that until further notice. Salesforce from that approach looked absolutely massive! I was blown away, man! Even though the WG is the "tallest on the west coast," Salesforce definitely looks like the king of the west now that the crown is nearly completed. Love LA, but I'm sorry, they are going to have to take a step back for now.

What a stunning building. It looks like the towers currently going up in East Asia.

That's its chief fault--it looks too much like one of them.

Between the IFC, the Bank of China tower, and the waterfront/bay setting, SF definitely has somewhat of a mini hong kong thing going on with the skyline (though i don't see that as a fault, since i like both of those towers), now that 181 fremont and salesforce are topped out. The high chinese population that mostly comes from hong kong and southern china helps too of course, when you actually get down to the streets.

Relative to what's going up in much the rest of the country, I like that it doesn't look like something necessarily from here. This would be lost anywhere in China. Here it looks like a landmark. I've gotten more than tired of both glass boxes and PoMo crap. San Francisco did well with this one.

I am glad to see work on the west side again to fill the gap. This is the view I see from my apartment. The photo is colored from the smoke coming from a fire in the Sierra Nevada 160 miles away!
