The white interior design is suitable for this modern cliff house that invaded by natural light and has open floor plan at the rear that face to face with the sea. White color occupied almost all aspect in this modern cliff house, such as walls, decoration, until furniture, until structure. The black color of certain element, such as carpet in bedroom and living room, walls in the bathroom, certain ottoman furniture, and accent of fireplace. Rough woods element is perfect complement in this white interior design. The back story

The house that stands at 5 Hawthorn Gardens in Rosedale was built as a country house on the edge of a ravine in the last years of the 1800s, says the current owner, artist Ydessa Hendeles.

The architect, Eustace Bird, was also the designer of 2 King St. East and the Sunbeam Incandescent Lamp Factory on Dufferin Street.

In 1931, the house was owned by Arthur White, who hired the firm of Mathers and Haldenby to do some renovations, including the addition of a ballroom.

This typical Flemish allotment in a pine forest lacks a deterministic context. Except for the vertical rhythm of the pine trees, the surroundings enforce only few constraints. As a result the central theme for the design is found in the design brief itself. The design for the house demands an answer tailored to the needs of this client: no specific rooms are requested but instead an open plan that allows relocating within the house. In doing so a plan emerges with almost arbitrary placed massive volumes – containing couchettes used at night, bathroom, kitchen and storage – and generous light and open transitional spaces that are used during the day. Their use can be adapted to the desires of its inhabitants. Living everywhere.

Karri Loop House by MORQ folds around three indigenous Australian trees

Three mature trees were rooted to the centre of this site in Western Australia, but architecture firm MORQ managed to convince the owners to build their family house around the peeling trunks and burgeoning foliage (+ slideshow).

joeb moore + partners reflects coastal landscape in spiral house

the ‘spiral house’ by american studio joeb moore & partners is situated along the connecticut shoreline of long island sound. engaging with its surrounding coastal conditions, the multi-faceted structure offers a series of atmospheres that respond to the context of light, air, and water. the building functions as an interface between two types of geometry with an overlapping system of open and closed spaces. consisting of both fixed components and more radial dynamic ones, a spatial progression is created between the public and private areas, and also the interior and exterior.

From the time of the Greeks, polyhedra have fascinated mathematicians and architects alike, while in modern times we've seen fascinating developments like geodesic forms and computer-aided parametric designs. Pure polyhedral forms still fascinate designers, resulting in intriguing creations like this modular cabin by Estonian architect Jaanus Orgusaar. Based on the rhombic dodecahedron, this is a form which can be found in nature, from honeycombs to the molecular structure of diamonds.

Consisting of twelve identical rhombic faces in three-dimensional form, Noa is a wooden structure that uses a hidden polyhedral space frame to give it rigidity. Its modular, prefabricated design means that single pods can be linked up to form larger spaces, while also benefitting from ease of transport.

Richard Rogers’ Pre-Fab Y-Cube Takes on UK Housing Crisis

The Y-Cube, a £30,000 factory-built 26 square meter flat which can be easily transported and craned into place, has been prototyped and successfully tested in the UK. The YMCA asked Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners to create the Y-Cube, an affordable alternative for residents moving on from the non-profit’s hostels. And now, the YMCA wants more of these one-bedroom dwellings.

“The beauty is that the units can be moved off site as quickly as they are installed,” says Andy Redfearn of the YMCA, “as we operate on short-term leases – we expect people to stay [in the Y-Cube] for between three to five years, giving them time to skill up and save for a deposit.”

The red oblong box, which has already been nicknamed ‘the Monopoly hotel,’ takes eight weeks to build in the factory and one week to install on site. Rented out at £140 per week, the YMCA projects the project will pay for itself in 15 years and guarantee a 5% return to speculating “social investors.”

hugh strange completes the strange house and studio in an old pub yard

making clever use of an old pub yard enclosed by aged white brick walls, the ‘strange house’ for architect hugh strange of london-based hugh strange architects turns an otherwise unused urban pocket into a livable home and studio. dark spruce timber is used to highlight window and door frames as well as the large panes of glass that run along the walls, accepting the natural light being reflected off of the existing perimeter masonry enclosure. the interior is fitted with fsc tropical hardwood from nicaragua, creating a striking inner warmth of pristine light-colored wood interrupted by the band of glass that wraps around the structure.

One With the Desert: Staggering Residence in Joshua Tree, California

This staggering residence in Joshua Tree, California is an example of creative modern architecture at its best. With a concept initially carried out by architect Kendrick Bangs Kellogg, the Organic Modern Estate seems one with the desert. Work on this architecture gem started in year 1988. Even though it was finished in 1993, interior designer John Vugrin spent several years making “tweaks.” The result is a genuine looking dwelling in concrete, steel, glass, and copper, perfectly blending in with its rocky landscape.
