that is the 'oculus' skylight in the redeveloped fulton transit center downtown in manhattan:

Towering 110 feet above street level, the 53-foot diameter glass oculus is the main draw. It serves to bring daylight down into the depths of the subway and features the art installation called “Sky Reflector Night.†Designed by James Carpenter Design Associates, Grimsahw Architects and Arup, the 4000-pound cable net includes 952 alumninum panels that each geometrically unique.

Charlotte Gainsbourg? Is that real?

That "Oculus" photo was probably what caught my attention the most, I was about to ask about that too.

NYC has so much diversity in architecture and streetscape, it already feels so vibrant right there. I don't think any other city can compare. It is hard to explain but maybe you understand what I mean.

Meh, she may go over there for a change from tidy Paris, for fun and to lose her pets from time to time.
Never mind. Only her ugly dad was a significant artist, though I think he was dangerously addicted to alcohol, tobacco and narcotics in general, which eventually killed the poor man.
It's well known, show business is unhealthy.

Cool thread by the way.

Nice. Enjoyed the tour. I felt cold again.

And I definitely do not trust dudes who wear pocket squares, especially not ones with ridiculous folds.

Her work is well-regarded on Rate Your Music, so I've always been curious about her. I might have to check her out one of these days. The only thing I've seen or heard from either her or her dad is the song/video, "Lemon Incest", which is okay, I guess.

^ i envy that you have a new world of music ahead of you to explore, because serge is a huge, huge artist. he is like a dirty sinatra. i know all his music well, but you kind of burn through it and lose interest after awhile because he is exhausting.

indeed, smoking, drinking and his louche lifestyle could not have led to a very pleasant final years of his life. that's the cost i guess.

btw it says charlotte has lived in my neighborhood since 2014 per wiki. i've seen her around, i dk, but she seem rather pleasant. no doubt she also spends time back in la france and elsewhere, as the rootless rich are wont to do. in fact, i'm sure she is there right now as everyone else of her ilk has bailed out of this town if they could.

you just have to wonder now, will we ever go back to business as usual?

that pocket square was like a visual magnet, its so over the top, yet suck up to the bosses uptight looking.

Serge Gainsbourg's 1964 tune/tribute to NYC.

Usually, the freak would always write lyrics full of sex hints, but this one is only about skyscrapers and how tall they feel.

Notice that he actually stole it from an African musician who never was credited for the original harmony or arrangement, which is wrong.

oui, that song is one of thee best disses of nyc there has ever been or ever could be. a real rip on the city. c’est fantastique.

i did not know serge ripped off the melody. that does detract from the song.

serge was thee original rich, louche hipster and he puts the newer 2000s era brooklyn and etc hipster versions to shame. his music is well worth diving into if you do not know it. highest recommendation.
