Stockholm, Sweden - plus, a little of Visby (Gotland)

Stockholm is the capital and largest city in Sweden, with a population of 965,000 in the city proper. The official "functional urban area" population is 2,269,000 according to Eurostat. The city occupies numerous islands where Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea.

Originally opened in 1950, the Stockholm Metro is known for its decorative stations. I didn't get to ride it extensively, but from what I saw it seemed quite clean and efficient.

Visby is the main town on Gotland, a large island about 190 km south of Stockholm. It is a popular vacation destination for Scandinavians, and best known for its numerous church ruins, dating from the 12th to 14th centuries.

Absolutely grand and stunning city. It just moved up a couple of places on my must-see list.

Both Stockholm and Visby are beautiful. Have never been to Visby, despite it's in my own country, have to go there some day.

You've captured Stockholm's milieu very well I think. I need to get back.

Amazing. Much more ornate and layered than I had thought. Considering the Scandinavian minimal style, they have a historical decadence.

This would not last a day in my city...
