Don and Kevin are talking about two different things and both are adamant that they are correct. Well, both may be correct.

Don - the metro area as a whole is tanking
Kevin - some parts of the metro are doing OK and maybe even experiencing growth.

I think both of these can be correct without one contradicting the other.

I like the added cluster of building height and mass that 44 W. monroe and the Sharaton have done to downtown. I cannot wait for Central Pak East and Cityscape to get vertical. I understand that Cityscape is being dropped to 12' floor to floor due to costs, so the buildings will be lower than those approved.

Also in regards to the Phoenix market. My firm cannot keep up with all the work we are completing...some of it is residential condo here in the valley and in Tucson. I read the papers, I hear the news, I hear about the gloom...but we are totally swamped, and so are many other architects we talk to are in the same situation. We turned down a huge project 3 weeks ago because we cannot find the manpower to work on it.

There's my 2 cents worth!

Where did you get the info about 12' floor to floor? What was it supposed to be originally?

It seems Grace has added the video animation of 44 Monroe to their website. I could be wrong but it seems to be a little bit longer than the one that was previously posted. I don’t recall seeing all of the shots of the pool sun deck area or the indoor gathering room in the first video.

I finally got to see this in person last week. It's a really nice filler project, but I found it architecturally fussy. And the grey color is really drab. Just personal preference I suppose.

That being said, it does fill a nice hole in the skyline and it's really nice to see a condo tower in DOWNTOWN Phoenix.

A few pics of the building and its place in the skyline...

the building really looks like it belongs near a beach. Doesn't really fit in to our shit-brown skyline.

On another note, the fact that the american flag looks tattered, and has NO LIGHT, really pisses me off.

fuckers.

I.... AGREE with you?!?!?!?!??!!!!????!?!!?!

After all that, they add insult to injury by refusing to care for the flag.

The flag being on the building doesn't bother me so much, could have done without it right at the top like it is. But not caring for the flag and having it unlit just...ticks me off too

They need to take that one down and destroy it properly and put a new up up in its place if they are going to insist upon having a flag up there.

Are they looking to lower the flag at night or is this a permanent flagstaff with no halyards? If that's gonna be there the whole time then t hey must illuminate the flag for a patriotic effect. That kind of shyt would not fly on a gov't facility (mainly a military base). I love 44 monroe though.

I dont know what they are going to eventually do, but I can see it from my bedroom window and it is up all night unlit and tattered.

would it be too much trouble to contact Luke AFB and ask them for a tougher flag? Jeez, that flag wasn't up there long before it look tattered. Which it is an unwritten law that when a flag is in poor, ragged condition, you should burn it with dignity and replace the flag. I know most AF installations there are all purpose flags that are made of some kick azz Nylon composite material. Those suckers could survive 30 hurricanes.

The new "44 monroe" name is now on the entrance of the building, new sidewalks, and more plants are in. They are also painting the underside of the balconies a nice color. "Will they do the same to the vertical sides of bare cement that are on the corners of the whole height of the building?" I can't believe they will leave it bare splotchy cement.
