Four Los Angeles residences found on ebay.

-upper right is the castle-like Stimson House at 2421 S. Figueroa, built 1891 (still standing)

I could use some help on the other three.

And listed as "offices" (Coffee Dan's, Inc.) was this location:

7972 Beverly Blvd. WE3-9291

By March of 1960 these were the only ones left:
6405 Hollywood Blvd. HO4-8449
6776 Hollywood Blvd. HO4-0667
3408 Hoover Blvd. RI8-9425
7972 Beverly Blvd. WE3-9291

A little over a year later (October '61) all of these places were gone.

Which doesn't explain the following post with a photograph listed as 1966:

Unless I was doing something wrong, I didn't see the Van Nuys location listed anywhere.
(6576 Van Nuys Blvd., on the east side of Van Nuys Blvd. between Victory and Vanowen.)

Someone posted one of these youtube videos before...HossC I think. I believe it was the nighttime one, but I couldn't find the link right now.

This video shows COFFEE DAN'S at 6776 Hollywood Blvd., near Highland, at night in 1961.
It'll be on the left of the screen when they get to Highland Ave. You can see the neon sign arrows
moving. Remember by October of '61 the directory does not have any Coffee Dan's listed.

This video was taken during the day and is dated early 1950's.
When the camera gets to Highland, coming from the oppsosite direction as the above video,
before they turn North on Highland, on the right hand side you can see Coffee Dan's and the
same neon lights at the intersection during the day.

Boron
By the way, with all the posts about Boron a few days ago, I noticed in the 1960 photo of
Coffee Dan's above, on the left you can see a partial Richfield billboard advertising Boron.
Looks like it's "new and improved."

1968 Coffee Dan’s was still on Hollywood and Highland. Across the street at 6753 Hollywood was Diamond Jim’s Restaurant which was owned but the same company (Associated Host). I worked in the parking lot behind it next to Don The Beachcomber. I had a valet parking concession at the Smuggler’s Inn at Sunset and Vermont which was another Associated Host restaurant.

Thank you for posting this, Lwize, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World has to be the funniest movie of all time. Everyone who was ANYONE was in it. Even brilliant cameos from Jack Benny, Don Knotts, and the Three Stooges! I hope ethereal_reality can sit through the whole thing someday.

BTW, ethereal_reality, what was Thrifty Poultry Mart thinking? Were those airplanes, or three horny dolphins?!?!

April 5, 1948: The intersection of 5th and Grand has conflicting semaphore traffic signals. One says “stop” and the other says “go.”

But help was on the way. Los Angeles was in transition from these old signals to the three-light devices.

An article in the April 11, 1948, Los Angeles Times reported that out of 1,400 traffic-signal-controlled intersections in the city, 630 still had the semaphore signals. About 150 old signals were replaced in 1947 with the new devices “and its yellow caution light which gleams for a few seconds between the green and red.”

This photo by retired staff photographer Paul Calvert was published on April 11, 1948.

I don't recall this particular view being posted - I could be wrong. Pretty iconic none the less - Union Station, Maier Brewery, Gasometers, Aliso Street, PE and noir rides… If it's appeared before, forgive me, my memory is not what it used to be.

Just a non-photographic comment that there has been a lot of good stuff here the past few weeks - I especially enjoyed FredH's series and flyingwedge's work on that Baldwin Hills house. Plus even Sopas_ej has come back to post. Great work, e_r on keeping it all going.

Hey, a shot of the door! Geez, I remember talking about that back on page 26; never thought I'd see an image of her other than this one:

Which dates from November 1949, not ca 1930 as USC figured.

The 1870s portal was apparently dumpstered when the 1917 school was demo'd after Sylmar. At least that's all I can figure since no-one at the school will talk to me.
