Wonderful!....Like I always try to explain to people outside of Hamilton, there is more to Hamilton than the Steel Mills and Smoke stacks, which only take up 2% of the City yet most people who have never set foot inside Hamilton who don't know the OTHER 98% of the City are in for a real treat if they decide to visit the Hammer......

Durand, historically was home to the 'industrialists'. This south of downtown neighbourhood is quite possibly the largest concentration of early 20c castles/mansions in Canada. The grand homes were home to the families whose names graced the signs of the north end factories.

Totally awesome! To the outsider, Hamilton has several wonderful areas that are hidden... the poor areas are more readily visible.... You should consider showing us some of the natural beauty of Hamilton.... like the escarpment with its waterfalls.

these pics remind me of an area in milwaukee north of the downtown area that is filled with stunning single family homes like those depicted.

I love Durand. Ravenscliffe is my favourite street... that's where that 1st house is on.

If you're ever in the area, be sure to check out the park at the very top of Mountain Ave. I think it's called Highland Gardens? It's sweet.

i'm going to guess the 32nd picture down. the one with the "private" sign on the driveway post on the left side of the picture. he lived next door to my friend from highschool, and that house looks pretty similar to hers.

also! i love this neighbourhood. i live in one of the old apartments in the neighbourhood, and they have such beautiful character. i wish i could afford a house here. great shots!

^^I couldn't find any for sale, but Hamilton doesn't have high real estate values so they're probably a bargain relative to other cities. I definitely know I won't ever be able to afford one however.

@bluedressgirl, the house with the "private" sign is actually divided into condos. It's one of the biggest and most detailed houses in Durand, but unfortunately I couldn't get a good picture because it was obscured by trees.

The "square art deco home" as well as the one that was on the market are both 'Pigott Better Built Homes', J.M. Pigott's short-lived foray into mass produced housing with structural steel frames. Alas they proved too costly for efficient mass production, but those two gorgeous examples remain. Incidentally, J.M.'s residence appears just over halfway down the page. Check out the Pigott Building, one of Canada's prettiest Gothic skyscrapers, on the Downtown and series finale pages.
