As an answer to the 3 previous posts, it's all to do with their F/P route, which in and of itself, is greatly affected by the jetstream. Over 90% of the time, they'll file N-E bound (J505) in the general direction of Beiseker, Lloydminster, La Ronge, etc. Some days, the jetstream dictates that they fly further North before benefitting from the 'stream', and therefore file over YEG. Lufthansa turned West off 16 today because he was going over YEG. That said, and especially in DLH's A343's case, it's sometimes more efficient to turn right coming off 16 because there are multiple inbound traffic from the south East (Vucan) and 'topping' that traffic is simply out of the question with that dog of an airplane, so a quick loop to the West with a further turn over the airport and out to the North East (Greto J505) and that'll give him just enough altitude to clear the inbounds.
Wrt Lufthansa requesting a right turn soon after departure, noise abatement requires all jets to climb to 6500 BPOC, but if the pilot chooses, he can make the turn below that, knowing full well he could catch hell if a noise complaint is issued because of his actions. If it was nice out, he probably (?) wanted to loop around the downtown core to take a pic...

It takes an A340 sometimes quite a while to make it to 6500' so, and I know from experience, a pilot may say: "Vee ahh in Victor Mike Chahh-lie conditions and would like a left tuhhhn now". (Best I could do for a German accent....) All kidding aside, they're quite professional, though, as you know.
