As an answer to the 3 previous posts, it's all to do with their F/P route, which in and of itself, is greatly affected by the jetstream. Over 90% of the time, they'll file N-E bound (J505) in the general direction of Beiseker, Lloydminster, La Ronge, etc. Some days, the jetstream dictates that they fly further North before benefitting from the 'stream', and therefore file over YEG. Lufthansa turned West off 16 today because he was going over YEG. That said, and especially in DLH's A343's case, it's sometimes more efficient to turn right coming off 16 because there are multiple inbound traffic from the south East (Vucan) and 'topping' that traffic is simply out of the question with that dog of an airplane, so a quick loop to the West with a further turn over the airport and out to the North East (Greto J505) and that'll give him just enough altitude to clear the inbounds.

Wrt Lufthansa requesting a right turn soon after departure, noise abatement requires all jets to climb to 6500 BPOC, but if the pilot chooses, he can make the turn below that, knowing full well he could catch hell if a noise complaint is issued because of his actions. If it was nice out, he probably (?) wanted to loop around the downtown core to take a pic... It takes an A340 sometimes quite a while to make it to 6500' so, and I know from experience, a pilot may say: "Vee ahh in Victor Mike Chahh-lie conditions and would like a left tuhhhn now". (Best I could do for a German accent....) All kidding aside, they're quite professional, though, as you know.

Great answer, and it definitely explains why there are periods of a few days where the west turn is more common than the usual eastbound turn.

And boy was LH495 fat today, started to rotate off of 16 probably around the intersection with 07/25. Makes for some great spotting!

This should boost travel from Japan

Just saw this article in the Herald. A new Vancouver based travel company....

"A new vacation company expects to bring more than 17,000 Japanese tourists through Calgary next summer, part of its strategy to rebuild Canada as a go-to destination for that part of the world.

Canadian Pacific Travel plans to be operating by next June, flying from three cities in Japan into Calgary and Vancouver."

AC winter sched adjustment - PDX / SEA gone

Looks like PDX and SEA are getting axed for the upcoming winter scheds.

Bit of a shock.

Other changes:

LAS upgrading to a 320.

Some other minor adjustments including YWG reverting back to all JAZZ.

I dont know, I thought it was a codeshare, but I put in the options to hide codeshare, and it did. This is the codeshare flight number though(9W) Jet Airways (India) 5051, while the one showing up as an arrival is 9051.

Thanks for your help

I see YYC-PDX (nonstop) for every date I check all through the winter- why do you say this?

Scheds have not been updated in all CRS systems yet. In fact, strangely enough, AC's online system is usually the last to be updated!

Some other changes:

YLW going all DH3.
YXC up to 2 daily DH3.
YQL down to 1 daily DH1.
YEG reverting to all DH3/DH1 but with increased frequency.

So which ones have been updated? I searched on AC, Orbitz and Expedia for January and they all show the nonstop.

How do you know about this?

Should be off Expedia already, OAG as well.

Expect the others within a couple of days.

It's the exact same thing when new flights are announced. Takes a few days for all CRS sytems to get updated completely.

My connecting flight from YVR-YYC (from SYD) just got changed to an E190 as well. A bit of a shake up going on.

Check out AC's sched to YYZ on Saturdays after December, bizarre.

You're right- damn. I just hope the PDX nonstop returns for summer (it's scheduled as such). I adored that option.

The high bypass engines! You can see through them! With the new cowling design it will be interesting to hear at what distance one can still hear.

The wing flex on the 787 is just breathtaking! This could be my new favorite airliner (as far as looks go) in the sky.

WOW! Biggie you are right, that wing flex is MIND-BLASTING!

Why the ANA livery? I am assuming that they have a big order?
