They should just build WTC2 with the exact same design as WTC1 but without the spire. We'd have our pre-911 skyline back.

- 2WTC is now 1,340ft / 408m and 81 floors. The roof / parapet is now at 1,340', so there's at least one positive feature.

- 3WTC has lost its 4 spires. It seems they've raised the parapet, so it remains at 1,171ft / 357m.

- 125G seems to be a solid supertall, from the renderings we can expect something in 1,200 - 1,300ft range.

Renderings showing new 2WTC and 3WTC, also 125G:

Looking at the rendering, I am pleased with how it complements the skyline. The gap is kinda good between the WTC complex and 125G. Seems to balance out the supertall effect over a larger area when viewing at the estuary of the Hudson.

What a horrible thing that will be once its built just knowing that building holds within itself Fox News, yuck. The design is terrible and it being Rupert Murdochs media headquarters just adds ample insult to injury. I really hope the New York City Council steps in and makes them change the design.

I'm more concerned about aesthetics. Downtown is the jewel of the skyline and arguably the most beautiful portion of the many skylines. The appearance from the harbor will be nice as it resembles the twins, but eh, the stair effect from Canal or as viewed from Midtown South will be .

To lighten up the mood ... new renderings for 111 Murray have surfaced and they look promising. The tower shares many similarities with 50 West: http://ny.curbed.com/archives/2015/0...or_tribeca.php

Foster can bring the 2WTC design down to Philly for Comcast Tower #3 - which is rumored to be in the very early planning process. Bring it here Lord Foster!

That gif is amazing. I'd be cool to see one of DoBro 5 years ago versus now.

Given that Foster's design was specifically for investment banks, with huge trading floors and banking bullpen floors, the chance of the Foster tower being developed outside of NYC (or maybe London) would be somewhere around zero.

Comcast, as a media company, probably has similar space needs as a Newscorp, though why would they need more office space? They already have tons and tons of space.

I was thinking about this earlier as I was bored at work, and when we are bored, the mind wanders. Often in a tangent.

Hunser, as you are a math expert, can you devise an equation for the probability of a supertall rising in Manhattan on a neighborhood basis given:

A) Land availability
B) Average sq ft price and the change per quarter
C) Demand when it comes to all different types of office and residential
D) What tower height would be needed to make a long term profit necessary
E) Supertall probability per block in Midtown (essentially like a zillow map of property values, only with the chance of a tall tower rising).

I'd be cool to see some math involved to figure out which neighborhoods have the highest % of one rising. Its probable that as land becomes ever more scarce, parcel prices increase, that "X" amount of floors and heights will be need to recuperate costs and make it profitable in the future.

I guess this is an unofficial PhD thesis I am asking of you. I don't even know it its possible, but its an idea. Good exercise using differential equations one could say.

You do know that Foster designed CITC (or Comcast #2) which is currently under construction.

And Liberty Property (the development comp. Comcast worked with for Comcast Center and CITC) and Comcast have already acquired almost an entire city block diagonal to where CITC is being built.
All I'm saying is they aren't buying up all that land for nothing. They are planning for the future- long term, and they already have a great relationship with Foster -- so who knows?!
