Also some back-story on the name change.

Love the look, and being so close to downtown could be huge, should help grow the area a lot.

Yeah, I'd rather see green space than those vacant 1-story buildings too.

The number of empty storefronts between 14th and 10th streets along the city's signature thoroughfare is frankly embarrassing. It's so disappointing that the 12th & Midtown project and the other building across the street (I forget its name) have been unable to fill up the retail spaces.

Wan't that parcel supposed to eventually be turned into apartments? I remember reading about it before Manuel's Tavern did their renovations.

That is correct. Selig and Green Street Properties are partners. The rezoning request says PD-MU to... PD-MU? Maybe someone can fill me in, probably some minor change or variance request?

The Assembly Project - Looks like some Massive Offices Planned

I have heard Serta Simmons is looking to consolidate and move their HQ from Chicago and Atlanta to The Assembly. 1000 jobs are involved in this move. Also another friend told me there is close to 1 Million SF of retail eyeing The Assembling including a department store. The City, State and Feds are providing $750 Million in infrastructure to kick off the development.
  • Project starts March 2017

The Campus section of The Assembly totals 3 Million square feet of office space, and it can range from 3 to 6 buildings. The Assembly is designed as a cluster of five distinct districts to provide a specialized set of experiences within a 145 acre development. The Yards and The Campus are the initial phases of the Assembly development. At full build-out, the development will contain 10 million square feet of office, residential and retail uses.
  1. The Campus - Building 1
  2. The Campus - Building 2
  3. The Campus - Building 3
  4. The Yards

This project is going to awesome for the metro area. If anywhere close to renderings, this will be one of if not our best TOD and could stimulate smarter growth along Buford Highway, 141, and Chamblee Tucker, as well as up into Gwinnett. As a side note, Gwinnett Country is projected to be the most populous County in Georgia by 2040 and I firmly believe will be joining MARTA within a few years. It will also strengthen the case for an eventual HRT line between 85-75 along 285, but for now, I'm glad to see more jobs proposed for this area in what appears to be a well designed development interacting with an existing MARTA station.

And actually, on a closer reading of the Acela link it does appear to be a site plan amendment.

Where will you be moving from? What neighborhoods are you looking at moving to?

my husband and i have a condo in buckhead village, which is where i've been when i'm not here in dallas. (moved out here about 18mo ago for a software dev position) long term i'd like us to end up near midtown, but the current place works well location-wise for our current jobs.
