SSP City-R

The R is for Realism.

Much like SSP cities from past I was hoping we can create a picture perfect city with the focus on 100% detail. It will be much smaller and easier to control.

I don't want to influence it much so all i am doing is creating an area of 12 full blocks which is easily expandable to start with. After that i want to leave it up to whoever wants to join in to create proposals and make decisions on object placements etc.

Please discuss styles and any ideas.

*The only rule is materials must be a only used as a single surface so it is renderable.

Everything from lamp post to bins to bus stop to gutter trolley ramp thing placement/design needs to be discussed !

I was hoping once i have the map we can chose a starting point to develop and submit proposals as drawings or such and discuss/vote?
Then wait until that area is complete before opening proposals for surrounding developments.

(will post map pic soon)

Yer it's hard to make a big city like the previous, And this one is more for the experienced modellers but anyone can contribute on planning etc.

I have created the map and a serving suggestion.I thought a narrow river setting would be nice and gives the chance for some high detailed small bridges.

What do we do next ? Should i upload lots to SU warehouse again ?

Dodgy render/materials used. River is temporary and subject to planning.

The roads are 3.5m/12ft double lane.
Sidewalk is 5m/16ft.
15cm/0.5ft gutters.

Wouldn't mind bringing in some of the models from SSP1 but with more detail.
I can send your model from SSP1 back if you want to detail it more.

Sounds pretty awesome. I'm in. I say you do lots instead of blocks. That way we can focus more on a single building.

The river sounds fine. Will you offer lots in the waterfront or will it be a park? I think some lots for piers and maybe an observation tower would be fine.

Sure, I'll split them in 4 which will make each lot around 75x75m/250x250ft

Trying to think of a smallish U.S city on a river which would be a nice influence with it's river bank parks. ? I think it's mid-south.

The pink bits could be waterside eating? Yellow = park.

Maybe the pier would look nice in place of the midle bridge ?
Anyways, save the map image and have a play with it in MS paint or similar.

A test render of some cars that will appear. I'll try to have 10 different models. Any requests? I hope it's ok to use them.

If this is a US city, could it have historic skyscrapers? If so, I'd like to take one upon myself.

.

id like to do a building, but at a later date and maybe not in the city centre.I think the city centre should be at least 60%historical and may be suited to other sketchupdudes. When i see the style of the city ,ill know what to do.
Kinda have enough of doing skyscrapers and would be interested in like a shopping centre, art museum,sportshall-some modern lowrises, but better wait till the city spreads a bit..........would love to do a tram but track and cable detail may be too much....let the (nameless )city begin...

I can do pretty much anything from 1890-2000. We should bring back CGII's massive block, even if we move stuff around.

Awesome, These are the type of ideas which will make for an interesting city.

It doesn't have to be huge, Just flavoursome It doesn't matter if your design is majorly influenced by a real world building either. It's the locations and settings we use them which will make for a great city.

Gotta go, my lift is here. Looking forward to more ideas and bringing the above ideas to fruition tonight

Ideas so far,

US city - Approved.
Narrow river setting/Riverside dining district/Riverside piers
Historic skyscrapers
Tram/Transport system
Bring back CGII's massive block
Shopping centre,art museum,sportshall-some modern lowrises
Chosing styles from 1890-2000 (or any styles we should NOT include from that period)

So it looks like we need to decide on Density + Height restrictions and Building style before we can progress to these ideas.

Some of my thoughts,
Medium density- Like Sacramento etc.

160m/500ft height restriction until the city develops. This will also add to the realism.

Style - Various / District dependant. It would be an idea to start with a style that is easy to make realistic.

If someone can just show a picture of a city that we can base it from will be a good start.

Meh, I think we should bring out CGII's block only if both he approves and if it fits in well with the city.

But I really like the ideas so far and highly agree. I'd be willing to add my two cents...and by two cents I mean hella awesome buildings of course.

Fer sure. but no airport ! - well maybe later.

CGII also had some rippers in the second lot he created. There's a mini 'Big Red' in there too i believe.
