$8M in funding approved for Bridgeport train station
May 30, 2015 5:38 PM

BRIDGEPORT - Officials say $8 million in recently approved state and federal funding will allow for a complete renovation of the Bridgeport Metro-North station.

It is the railroad's third busiest station, and many commuters are welcoming the upgrade.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal says the renovations will make a difference in the lives of riders who are often inconvenienced and uncomfortable.

With rail ridership in Connecticut at a historic high, officials are in accordance that the renovations are long overdue. There are no digital information boards inside the terminal, and there is no overhang to protect commuters from the rain and snow.

The $8 million will cover these and other upgrades, officials say, and will also accommodate the extra traffic expected from the Steelpointe project.

The renovations are projected to begin in June.

The funding comes as Bridgeport prepares to build a second train station on the East Side of the city.

What do you think about the merits of extending the New Canaan line/rerouting the Danbury line via the New Canaan line? Combining the lines should be able to greatly improve service on the 2 branches, while reducing mainline congestion between Norwalk and Stamford.

If you think your going to build a railway row through upper middle class New Canaan without hitting major opposition you must be on i'll have whatever your smoking. Id rather see service restored to Ridgefield from the Danbury Branch & Electrified.

Oh yes, It's absolutely a crack pipe proposal. It just bugs me that the New Canaan line sits there and can't go anywhere. As ridership grows on the other branches there's the threat of mainline congestion 'crowding out' the NC line. Or at least that's how I imagine it.

Alright, enough fanciful fleecy frufru.
Real news:

Pedestrian bridge for Ash Creek in Bridgeport
Posted on May 31, 2015 | By Bill Cummings

BRIDGEPORT – The state Department of Transportation has approved $3.8 million in funding to build a new pedestrian bridge over Ash Creek.

“The announcement by the Department of Transportation is certainly welcomed news and represents an important step forward for this much anticipated project,” said state Rep. Steven Stafstrom, D-Bridgeport.

The DOT funding comes under the state’s Local Transportation Capital Improvement Program and the application approved was prepared and submitted by the city through the Greater Bridgeport Regional Council.

“Providing a more convenient link between the Black Rock business district and the Fairfield Metro train station will help commuters into and out of the neighborhood, bringing a welcome boost for property values and business traffic,” Stafstrom said.

A pedestrian bridge over Ash Creek would link Bridgeport’s Black Rock Neighborhood via Fox Street with the Fairfield Metro Center.

The project has been in the works for a few years and a priority of the Greater Bridgeport Regional Council and of Stafstrom’s predecessor, ex-state Rep. Auden Grogins.

I would like if they built the passing siding at Springdale and provided service every 30mins along with a station in East Stamford.
