Interesting.

For comparison:

Toronto is 46% Foreign-born as at 2016 (last census)

Vancouver is 40%

Calgary is 29.4%

Winnipeg is 23.9%

Edmonton is 23.8%

Montreal is 23.4%

On language

54% of Toronto residents regularly speak one or more languages other than English or French at home.

About 2.5% of Toronto residents regularly speak French at home.

I'm guessing that the 6.7% of people in the Phoenix-Mesa CSA who speak a foreign language other than Spanish might be due to the various Native American tribes from around Arizona, but if that's the case (this is mostly semantics), why on earth would languages like Navajo and Hopi be considered foreign languages?

You beat me to it; I actually had issue with the term "foreign" language. English is a foreign language to the Americas; it's not indigenous, nor is Spanish.

It should have been "Percentage of Population that Speaks a Language Aside from English."

Valid point but it's not just semantics. If it's an indigenous language then it is literally not a foreign language.

No worries, I appreciate the heads up. I'm only bringing it up because part of my supervision area, and a significant chunk of my clientele, is indigenous and I've lost track of the amount of times I've needed a translator to help communicate with a Navajo-speaking client.

This November's most important stat:

About 663,000 eligible US voters live in Canada, many from swing states (less than 5% voted in the last election).

On behalf of planet earth, we hope they vote this time.

I'm surprised that you didn't add Honolulu's MSA to the list at 20.1% foreign born (196,337). Language other than English spoken at home (248,294 or 27.2%) & at 25.2% non-English languages other than Spanish spoken at home 5 years old and over.
