It is indeed the tower that is further east on Lougheed. Looking at the website and seeing where the excavation is occuring, both are the same. So exciting seeing so many projects going on at once in the area. Gives me a lot to enjoy on my spring/summer walks in the area!

A little over. Floor per 7 or 8 working days.

It will be topped out in about a year.

I would imagine they will speed up for about 6 days per floor once they hit their stride.

Most projects in metro van work on a 5.5-6 day schedule. Saturdays are usually a bit slower than Monday to Friday but there's almost always work being done on Saturdays.

Mall is almost at the dead mall state. It's really sad.

I can't foresee any good retailers joining the centre anytime soon which is likely why Shape has no tenants to announce. Sears is about dead as it can get as well.

And the reality is (no intend to offend anyone) people are sitting around all day in the food court loitering, not buying a thing.

it hasn't been a lively mall in a long time. When they added london drugs that helped a bit. It tried having some outlets, mainly shoes but that wasn't much of a draw.

Once it's completed it will bring much needed retail back to the area. Not everyone likes metrotown shopping. Most people I know avoid it unless they have to take out of towners there.

I don't think you understand how underwriting and tenanting a large project like this works, but it is more than likely shape has anticipated all these tenants dropping down and has budgeted for it in the development pro forma.

Here's two more realities for you
1: those people would be loitering in the food court regardless, the only difference is now there are no other people so they stand out more

2: All new tenants will be put into the completed development so that Shape can focus on the second phase and renovation of the existing mall. The fewer inbound tenants for that the better.

I just had a sense of deja vu as I'm sure I've read almost the same thing before - and then I realized that I have. You really need a new hobby...

Sounds like you're there a lot, are you sure you're not one of the loiterers?

Yes, the mall is in a rough stage and there are ever fewer reasons to go there.

Yes, all malls undergoing massive-scale redevelopment go through this rough stage.

What's happening to the existing mall is not surprising.

Shopping malls in general are struggling "bigly". Online shopping is making people too lazy to step outside of their homes.

Holy sh*t. How many more of those comments are you going to post? We get it, you hate people who loiter at the food court. I'm guessing you work at the food court and you're so bored by the lack of customers you have to constantly complain on here...?

Obviously the mall is dead. It's a massive construction zone. What else do you expect?

I don't think that's the case, our purchasing power is incredibly low today, inflation went up by almost %3 in the past year and people are trying to save more money now yet debt to income ratio is the highest it's ever been. I haven't bought much of anything in the past year to be honest, internet or traditional retail store.

Personally, I am financially in the black (not by much but still) yet i am not comfortable spending money on much of anything right now.

2 of the worst among the fashion retailers. Not surprised there, especially Brentwood mall at this point in time.

Shopping malls are not struggling. They are among the most profitable form of retailing, at least for the Lower Mainland, particularly the high population density locations.

Those were their best stores. Bridal Bryan is also closed down after the flood. The only store that is open and my guess that they will soon shut down, is Le Chateau.

Telus have been clearing their site for some time in preparation for something? Combined the parcels of land would be over 33 acres....it could potentially be a massive project right beside the Sperling Skytrain. Intel anyone?
