I think this hotel will be in the same league as the Westin and the Hilton, two of the nicer hotels in the area.

Looks like someone recently snapped a pic from atop the crane at this site. Photo date 2014-Sept-01.

That's a terrific photo - I'm a sucker for night shots.

The other pic from ground level is good, in that it shows that site's presence re-establishing itself in the market. I had dinner the other day at the Lone Star on Dalhousie and was shocked by the progress of this development. It really moved fast.

What's the status on this one?

I drove through the market today and it looked like the building had topped-out; I counted about 14-15 floors where the topmost floor had a cut-away, likely for the planned roof-top restaurant.

They've also started to put up some strapping and insulation on the second floor.

They still haven't officially announced what hotel chain would operate it.

Umm... without the cladding the building looks an awful lot like the previous building which was predictable so no redesign was required. Not sure why the new building is considered more appropriate from a heritage perspective.

I am pretty sure it will be clad in heritage style brick so it will 'blend' in with the heritage of the market, unlike the brutalist look of the former building. It also was rebuilt to increase income, as a commercial space requires higher cielings compared to residential / lodging. So more floors in the same height.

^ Wasn't there a bunch of glass in the rendering?

At this rate could they be ready by World Cup and the 2015 summer tourist season? I would think a hotel would be a lot quicker to finish the inside of than a condo building?

Though bulky, i think the taller tower is pretty interesting. I think this rendering is a bit misleading though from the different proportions of the hotel

Is there any info out there on the condo side of this project (besides the renders and # of floors/units)?

Yeah, above the 'podium' levels though. As shown here:

Don't like the design at all, the residential block is just too fat and sticks out like a sore thumb.
