This was their reply to me about an hour ago about it. I asked them what happened to the earlier plan, and said I thought Austin deserves something unique.

Quote:
The state changed the rules retroactively. We submitted our proposal according to the law, but in the last legislative session they decided to (retroactively) pull out the capitol corridor, and therefore invalidating our project. So, yes all that hard work and the hundreds of thousands it cost to develop those plans were simply wasted.

So, the current facility is an interim facility while we're developing a permanent one, and in principle downtown Austin is still a possibility. Albeit one that we would approach with 'some' trepidation as you can imagine.

You should send them a response email and tell them to simply avoid the capitol complex. 11th/12th and Sabine extending to interstate 35 is partially unobstructed by CVCs and would be a great location for them. It's currently industrial stuff except for Serrano's, which could remain.

Sounds a lot like the aquarium. Pretty lame.

What are you and Kevin talking about? And when you say "would be a great location for them" who is the "them" you're referring to? Me so confused. Also, what do you mean 'tell them to avoid the capitol complex"?

They're talking about the 47-story planetarium/hotel that was planned within the Capitol complex. It was nixed by the legislature.

Well, that was certainly a depressing read. I have new-found respect for the legendary pessimism of Spaceman. He had it figured out all along.

I'm no pessimist, just a realist...People need to step back and truly examine the viability of some of the proposed projects...It also helps to have a respected law firm in a Congress Ave. high rise as one's legal council...These folks here the truth about just about anything going on in DT Austin.

Mostly good stuff is going on Downtown, so let's hear some of that truth instead of just the negative.

Looks like the Taco Bell is going to be a Mattress Firm

It's hard to take a step backward from a Taco Bell. But I believe it has been accomplished.

There are more Mattress Firm stores in Austin than there Mexican or Chinese restaurants...They should merge with Jack Brown clearers and take over every available corner in town. Do mattresses sell at that volume? Aren't they the people who say" a mattress doubles in weight every eight years." WTF is going on in that bedroom? Its probably the occupants that are doubling in weight every eight years
Here's a scoop, sell Apple and Google stocks and buy Mattress Firm.

I don't know why you believe they are Christmas lights or why that holiday has such a grip on you, but please don't let it interfere with your enjoyment of the ambiance of 2nd St.
I live in the suburbs (please don't hold that against me) and this year, just before Christmas, I hung a couple strings (total 400 multicolored) of these solar-powered LEDs, running back-and-forth, all along my privacy fence at the back of the lot:

http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KAVRSF4/

They are mounted on the inside of the fence, facing into my yard, and I don't have neighbors to the rear of me. They'll be there year-round, and as long as the fence stands.

I also have strings of solar-powered LEDs that are mounted inside perforated metal stars, along my side fences in the back yard, so those provide decoration day and night.

These decorative lights are better than peering out my back window at the darkest time of night and just seeing nothing. The lights are dim, so they don't pollute with their light - the sky is still plenty black, so I can still look up and see real stars.

Now, although I did hang them before Christmas, that is merely a coincidence, because I don't celebrate the holiday, beyond taking advantage of Black Friday sales to buy myself stuff, sending gifts to my parents by rote, and just going through the motions for the benefit of those who do believe in the myths about a "magical sky friend."

Further, I like "The Grinch That Stole Christmas," but only as long as it is shut off at the middle, when the whole story starts to go to pot.

And yes, I'm serious about all the above.

I guess all the people moving here don't bring their mattresses with them.

New proposed mixed use center in Cedar Park. Looks like the tallest building in the project will be the 4-story hotel.
