Took a walk during lunch and from 3rd Ave to 7th Ave, it looks like tower crane city! Going to be even crazier when the Aspire and Fillmore cranes go up. Going to look like a whole new Downtown is getting built!

It is a whole new downtown. Especially when you consider that 20 years ago you didnt have Colliers, Chase Field, the new court buildings, Freeport McMoran, the Sheratan, 44 Monroe, any restaurants, any apartments, The convention center, the Science center, no ASU buildings, no UofA or Bio-med buildings and almost all of Roosevelt was still empty lots and crack houses.

in 2000 downtown might as well have not existed, a few half full office buildings built in the 70's and 80's and some jails.

But anyway:
Coming over the Hance park bridge down central you can now see 6 cranes in immediate view, soon Link 2 will also be visible, Unfortunately Thunderbird school is too short to see over the other buildings.

You can't please all the people most of the time.

I agree Phoenix isn't hurting for space and like was pointed out, most universities go with single use buildings. Some of these naysayers need to get out and see more cities and dump these unrealistic expectations. ASU is one of the key driving forces to everything that is happening downtown so lighten up.
Did it dawn on any of these people that if these lots are taken that will force high rises to go north sooner where the limits are much higher so that could be a great thing for 'skyscraper' fans.

This thing is deceptively massive

Because its so wide it seems short but its going to be huge in that spot.

It would appear Katerra does not prioritize webcams the way their predecessor did.

Really love the presence this building has. Excited for more of the glass to go up, it’s looking really nice so far!

That's ASU dorm is by far the worse project of this building craze. Plus it's such a great lot. Something like the Astra should be on there.

I just prefer all glass like the Hines project. Not a fan of this or the ASU buildings off 7th.

I really don't know why the media doesn't give credit for things they have found on this site. Published this morning...2 full weeks after I posted this. I guess I'm a little miffed that we don't get credit for all the stuff we research

Kinda confused on this one. Michael Crow posted this 2 hours ago on his Twitter account:

Quote:
Next Monday, we'll officially break ground on
@ASU's new residence hall in downtown #Phoenix (1st/Fillmore). We're excited to work with our partners to provide students with a living and learning environment designed to support their #entrepreneurial goals.
Construction has been going for weeks and they have already completed 1 level of columns. They are just now having a groundbreaking?

Groundbreaking is just a ceremony so why not?

Looks like Eco had a ceremony scheduled for this past Saturday that was rescheduled due to rain. That will probably show you how "groundbreaking" is viewed in a construction process.

I saw Crow's tweet earlier. I prefer to have the groundbreaking after construction has started, rather then having a groundbreaking and waiting a month for dirt to move.
