NHL season is officially underway!

Think my team is going to be wildly mediocre again, so I joined a bunch of pools to give me something to cheer for lol.

Such witty banter from all the crayon eaters in Edmonton.

Neither team has played a game and already the battle of Alberta is feisty.

AWESOME!

Well, we play each other tonight, so might as well get it started! Flames hopes depend entirely on Wolf, hope he's ready to play 60-70 games this season haha.

Wonder if the Battle of Alberta will live up to the bar the Battle of Florida set in the preseason. There were 16 ejections, 300+ PIM, The lightning were fined $100K and their coach was fined $25K. F'n epic!

Canucks have a weak top 6, so if we make the play-offs, it will be on the shoulders of our strong defense, and goaltending, as long as Demko stays healthy.

Lekkerimaki is going to surprise a lot of people around the league. He has an elite shot, so as long as he is doing other things right, and he is getting that shot off consistently, he will likely be a Calder candidate.

Sherwood Park's Braeden Cootes, who was just drafted and only 18, has made the team. He is a tenacious puck hound and very smart, so he can stick, even if he doesn't rack up points, though he has shown some offensive instincts, with 4 points in 4 pre-season games.

For a competitive team, I'm impressed with the young guys the Canucks have.

Haha... not sure that i've seen that 'play' before, but we should have had 3 more goals and that should not have mattered.

Either way, Mangie is awesome and will destroy.

As an Oilers fan I was disappointed to see the loss, but it's only game one, and it was close. Anyone remembers last year's start? lol

The regular season is just a waiting room for the Oilers. Sit and read a magazine for the season and wait for the playoffs to start.

If it weren't for Wolf, that would have been a blowout for sure. Oilers looked very composed to start the game and the Flames couldn't make a pass to save their life. All they needed was a lucky bounce to get them into it though.

x'Goalied' again? Are we sure?

Or unable to finish and what's truly plagued us the last two runs?

88 good
22 trying but not getting it done
86 will come
75 awful and probably should be on watch
53 slowly finding his way
97 forcing
29 off
93 off
2 off
30 honestly didn't look great, but held his own I guess

What really concerned me though was our inability to respond to their physicality.

Best line was Philp, Podz, Kap by far.

But a W is a W
