I was beginning to think that with all the new tower proposals being basically the same height (20-25 stories) that we were going to end up with a predominantly flat skyline. With this and the 29 story tower to the west of University House we should have some nice little peaks to break the plane.

I work directly across the street. Now I finally know what this project is called. Any renderings?

The crane was raised to the top over the weekend, and it's quite a bit higher than I expected. It's definitely going to be a skyline changer.

I haven't seen any. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

I know this is off-topic, but does anyone know any good photographic vantage points from the Midtown area? Public areas in highrises, parking decks that aren't gated, etc? I'd love to do some shooting. Thanks!

I've been on the roof of the parking deck at the NE corner of Juniper and 13th. It was nice.

What happened to the guy who several years ago was on here putting up fantastic views from all sorts of restricted, secured locations? I think he was some kind of inspector, or he had a tremendous gift of talking his way into some interesting shots.

- The parking deck at SCAD has amazing views of midtown, but security guards might ask you to leave if you're there for a while.

- Tech square parking deck

- The Clough Undergraduate Learning Center at Georgia Tech. I think you can just walk right in, and there's a rooftop garden that is open / unlocked, or if not you'll have to wait for someone with a buzzcard to follow out there. Go up there, it has great views of midtown.

- Piedmont park / active oval. Also the big hill that runs alongside 10th street.

- 17th street bridge (the big yellow one) looking south

- 17th street bridge (that goes over IKEA)

- The MLK MARTA station looking north. It has little slits in the walls that you can see through, amazing view

- The patio of 6ft under westside.

- The parking deck at the Aquarium

Looks like Skyhouse Buckhead will have two pools similar to the next proposal from Novare 1163 W Peachtree.

I bet you could get some great shots from the MARTA parking deck at Lindbergh. Granted it's not in Midtown but it's only a few miles away. You could probably get good shots of Buckhead, too.

Plans Filed For 361 New Apartments Near Atlantic Station

Atlanta-based Pollack Shores Real Estate Group is moving forward with plans to develop a 361-unit apartment building in Home Park near the Atlantic Station retail district.

Pollack submitted a multifamily land development building permit application to City of Atlanta Wednesday to develop the land next to IKEA, at 455 14th Street, where the apartments would be constructed.

Someone on another site mentioned a project I didn't know about.

The good news is a new mixed use development is apparently coming to the vacant lot at 17th and Northside (where the new Amtrak station was once talked about), set to open Fall 2016. The bad news is the developer is Fuqua. I don't know how firm this is, but I did see it being surveyed recently.

Broadstone Terraces render:

Also, per Midtown Alliance, the Juniper St. renovation will not commence until 2016, probably when this development has been completed.

Here are there meeting notes:

Modera - Mill Creek returned to present updates on their mixed-use project, a 29-story apartment tower with roughly 450 units and 12,300 SF of retail at the corner of 8th Street and Williams Street. The development team incorporated several key changes requested by the DRC including the addition of retail space on Peachtree Place and they received a recommendation of support from the committee on their SAP application.

Broadstone Terraces - Alliance Residential presented a more refined concept for Broadstone Terraces, a new 8-story apartment building with approx. 218 units proposed on the southeastern corner of Juniper at 6th Street. Given its proximity to the single family neighborhood immediately east of Piedmont Avenue, the project was reviewed by both the Midtown Neighbors Association and NPU-E. It received strong support from the neighborhood as well as the DRC.

Azure on the Park - Atlantic Realty Partners provided an update on the first phase of their proposed development at Piedmont and 11th Street. The proposal includes a 24-story residential tower with 283 units, and an adjacent 5-story building with roughly 47 residential units and 2,100 SF of retail space that will wrap structured parking. The DRC recommended support for the project.

Kapture – The committee revisited a renovation project proposed at 75 Peachtree Place that will convert an existing single-story office building into a restaurant/lounge. The committee recommended support for the project and the associated variation request to encroach into the supplemental zone in order to provide a lift for ADA access.

717 Piedmont – A new application was presented for extensive renovations to a home on Piedmont Avenue, near 4th Street. The scope of work includes renovations to the main and upper floor as a single family residence, renovation of the existing basement to add two one-bedroom apartments, and the addition of a three-car garage accessible from the alley. The committee recommended support for the SAP application.

Thank you so much for the update and quick response Triptychtwo. I am so glad that they were accommodating of the DRC's suggestions. This will be an amazing addition to the plethora of developments that are rising or under construction in the immediate area.

Couple of diverse thoughts:

Given federal budget constraints I don't know if the Amtrak deal will be happening near AS, and when it does happen maybe it should be downtown near the proposed multimodal operation. Obviously due to trackage configuration it would need be a short distance away, maybe right over the GWCC/Philips Marta station. That would provide a quick Marta link over to the multimodal. Lord knows there's plenty of nearby parking as well.

Different topic: It would be interesting if Novare etc. would target some of the new projects to specific demographics - boomers & empty-nesters, people with small children etc.

This should probably be in the Atlanta general discussion thread, if so please move.

I'm really just bummed to hear this will be a Fuqua development. If we end up with an eventual new Amtrak station at the gulch and the development of the multimodal station I'll be extremely happy. Will be watching this 17th at. / Northside development closely. It is an extremely prime piece of real estate. There is mention of detached single family homes on the Fuqua site if you follow the above link. That is not the appropriate type of development for this site in my opinion
