Yes sir. And I used to work at A&P when I was 17 for $6.85 an hour when minimum wage was $6.45. Then I quit one day during a shift because quite frankly the manager upfront was a cunt. Was awkward when we saw each other in a parking lot one night while she was hanging with her friends on lawn chairs.

Then I interviewed at McDonald’s with my classmate and he got invited to a second one while I didn’t. Two weeks later my uncle hooked me up at Chrysler assembly plant making $21.76 an hour and I ascended to baller status at high school because I could actually buy what I wanted to like polo, nautica and hilfiger. Ahh… what a waste of money.

A&P was an excellent logo for that time.

Sounds like hello and spelt with "hull" as in a boat hull. The U which vaguely looks like a boat sits below the water line.

Would be an even better pun for a ferry service across the Ottawa River at the location of present-day Portage or Alexandra Bridges

That said, the 'hullo' branding is good... it's distinctive, it stands out.

Why is there a need for a passenger only ferry service from Vancouver to Nanaimo?

Vancouver waterfront to the inner harbour in Victoria sure, but, Nanaimo???

Just wondering.................

The D always looked ugly to me. In fact, rather like the yellow-ribbon B for the Bay, I could not see the "D" (of course it was meant to represent a D) in the Dominion logo. It resembles a gaping mouth about to eat a maple leaf.

Dominion was eaten by Provigo in Quebec (dunno what happened in Ontario, or elsewhere) which in turn was gobbled by Galen's Galactic Grocery Empire. Dominions became Provigos, then Provigos became Loblaws, then (after the geniuses figured out that the Quebecois would never warm to the Loblaw's brand) they were once again rebranded Provigos.

I realize. I've been to Nanaimo (and Victoria).

My point is that a direct passenger only service to Victoria inner harbour from Vancouver downtown would be insanely popular for tourists, and probably would be much more of a sure service than a commuter service to Nanaimo.

I'll be there soon enough. The worst part is my eyesight has declined in the last 4 or 5 years. I can't read fine print anymore. I have to take a pic with my phone and zoom it in. I should really go to the optometrist.

This logo is cool.

I used to go into PJC and ask: "I am looking for a friend". They used to run a series of commercials (for fucking decades) with the inevitable tag line: "Pharm-Escompte, Jean-Coutu, where you will find it all....Even a friend!!"

I always found PJC to the junkiest of the mainstream drug chains (although Pharma-pricks, aka Shoppers Dog Fart, has really gone downhill since being gobbled by Galen Weston). 99% of the shit sold in these places is just overpriced junk.

You and I must be the same age then. My first job out of high school was working at a library for 5 bucks an hour (I think that was the minimum wage in MB at the time).

All of the pharmacies in my area have some glorified grocery section that is very overpriced, especially Galen's Pharmaprix (Shopper's). It's really shitty when grocery stores are closed here on a holiday and Weston still gets to wax his willy having the pharmacy open and charge a premium for food.

Sure Victoria has more draw but is significantly further by boat harbour to harbour. The shorter distance makes Vancouver - Nanaimo a far more viable to run.

Even with fast jet driven catamarans Vancouver - Victoria takes 3.5 hours.
That’s only slightly faster than taking BC Ferries + public transit bus on either side downtown to downtown. While the scheduled floatplane and helicopter services take 35min.

This service to Nanaimo will take 70min, less than half the time for BC Ferries + bus and closes the gap on flying (20min).

Fair point.

So, this is essentially a commuter service.
