Here is to the new Winnipeg *insert new hockey team name here*!
I think that the traditional "Winnipeg Victorias" name should be restored. Either than or just go with the "Winnipegs" as it was in 1887 and 1892-93. Also the team should insist on using a "rover", a seventh playing position that never should have been eliminated.

Okay, so what should the new team be named if not the "Jets"?

Winnipeg Bears?
Winnipeg Warriors? (I like this name)
Manitoba ??? (I'd hate it if the team were called the Manitoba ???)

Aww. I'd be a bit dissapointed if they were called anything other than the Jets. The Jets still have a world name recognition associating them with Winnipeg.

I can see how the bussiness side of things would favor a new name for the merchandise sales, but even if they're called the Jets they'd still have a new Jersey and logo and all that jazz.

Still, many would recycle their old jerseys...but common'. The JETS.

Beggers can't be choosers I suppose! Bring me any NHL team under any name and I'd still be estatic as a 'pegger.

I've noticed that in recent years pro sports teams have avoided using names that already belong to other pro sports teams. Maybe it's becoming more problematic from a trademark and Internet-domain perspective or maybe it's just a gentleman's agreement of some kind.

Given the recent naming trend in Winnipeg, no doubt it will end up being the Winnipeg Riels.

NHL luxury suites do not cost $150k on average....in 2004 the average was $77k.....it certainly hasnt doubled in 5 years...

if there are 150 companies in winnipeg willing to pay an average of $60k for crap AHL hockey, you would have to think at least half of them would be willing to pay 30-40% more for NHL.

I didn't know it was that huge of a waiting list. Half of them will be will be will to pay NHL prices. So I still wonder how many more private suites will be built. I am hoping atleast 15 more suites and 20 skyboxes to be built for small companies.

As for name I would say it remains the Jets for name and recognition and good history throughout the world. And those golden moments of winning the WHA championship-Avco cup and believe or not we had many cherished times in the NHL and the Finish Flash is just one of them.

Being the NHL owns the name and not the Coyotes I believe we will be able to take the name and records back home.

IMO since we have the Bomber name I believe the Jets name would only compliment it and add positive recognition to the aerospace industry. And I will be at the new airport terminal welcoming our new Jets team back.

Just as long the name Jets rename I don't care if the logo and colors change, Heck since red and blue is taken by columbus, Mtl, and NYR then blue and gold could be a nice option to match the bombers

I stand to be corrected however I believe that Shenkarow still owns the name and the royalty rights with the league. True North would have to acquire that as well and I am not convinced that they are interested. I do beleive that True North wants to continue to build the Moose brand and as such would keep the Moose name for our NHL team.

I wish this rumor is true anyhow all that matters is we get an NHL team

Along with the Jets Rumor has the Moose would move to Saskatoon and in return we would get a WHL S'toon Blades. But this begs to question the merit the sources of the rumor came Scott Taylor and the Eklund website however we did hear it on HNIC in october. I chose to believe because I believe in Winnipeg. There is another rumor taken from a forum.

"The Jets are coming back, I Know that the MTS Center in Winnipeg can expand it was designed to go from 15,500 to 18,000 seats.

And from a friend who works for the Manitoba Moose, she said the deal is done in principle, as long as the sale of the moose went through the rest of the deal would go through, she said they are planning on announcing it after the olympics, so here is hoping she actually knows what she is talking about.

As the PR girl for the team I give her some creditability. "

We take their team from them and then give it the same name as their NFL team?! We could just hold them down and punch them for a while if you would like! lol

I don't much care what they name the team, as long as we GET a team I'll be fine with whatever they call it.

As I have always wished the MTS centre to be more of an anchor of some revitalization for downtown, like for some new hotel and residential to be built. Anyhow if Edmonton new arena proposal with some new office towers, hotels in the proposal, then I don't see why we can't do the same or better.

how about the Golden Jets -since the famous hall of famer, Bobby Hull was nicknamed that here ever since he got us those avco cups and brought this city some recognition for playing here.
giving it that name would be kinda like we give a color before the team name for our football team the Blue Bombers

i did a copyright search a while ago because i was certain of the same thing, but it turns out that the NHL owns the name winnipeg jets and the two logos...the first logo from 1972 is not copyrighted...might be a good time to scoop that up.

i sit 15 feet away from the project architect of the MTS centre for 8 hours every single day and i can tell you with absolute certainty that it was not designed to be expandable....that isnt to say that it could not be done with a huge expenditure of cash, but it seems unlikely to me.....the expandability was not built into the design, that is a fact.

it is a more likely scenario that this kind of luxury suite is added.....a study for this was done at one point.

taken from the boston arena.

the advantage of these types of suites is that they allow smaller companies who might not be able to afford the 50 main suites an opportunity to get into the building.

Yeah I didn't think expanding it that much would be feasible, I think I heard about 500-600 seats can be added somehow. Though I wouldn't mind if they built a couple rows of nose bleeds all around the arena. In the old arena when you sitting in the nose bleeds along the width of the ice surface had a great view overtop the action, but just as long you were sitting right against the plexiglass.

Those Sky suites you speak from Prudential arena in Boston seem to make perfect sense.

I'd be surprised, but it would probably be the best surprise of my life if the NHL was about to make an imminent return to the 'Peg.

trueviking, that's a neat image. Thanks.

lol I didn't even think of that. Its in refernce to the Winnipeg based team that won the first olympic gold medal in 1920.

For many years, Winnipeggers have been cheering their hockey team on with the " GO! _____! GO!" chant. If the city is set to acquire another another NHL team, a one-syllable team name is imperative, as not to confuse the fan base with the introduction of a new chant (ie: "Here we go ______ ______, here we go!" or perhaps "Lets go ______ ______!" followed by the stomping of feet). My head spins just trying to fathom such a change occurring.

I don't see your point really, fans who cheer for the Blue Bombers chant,'here we go Bombers, lets go!!'
