The rezoning called that the South Parcel, and suggested it could have a 9-storey office building.

I heard a rumour of a possible hotel as part of the campus, with first nations involvement. That might be different from the larger hotel (17 storey) suggested for the West Parcel.

From starting work on the main floor in January to pouring concrete on level seven this month, a lot of progress has been made on the new hospital this year. And there’s much more to come.

“By the end of the year, we should have concrete poured for the seventh floor,” says Kevin Little, “By the middle of next year, we should have levels 8 – 11 poured, and all the way to the roof.”

Don't worry, the building will grow into it.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that that is zoomed as wide as possible.

Construction in 2025 and completion in 2028.

Quote:
The B.C. government is moving ahead with a $638 million “state-of-the-art” clinical support and research centre at the new St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver.

Health Minister Adrian Dix announced on Thursday that construction on the hospital is underway and the work being done in this centre is “historic for the public healthcare system.”

“We are going to see scientific breakthroughs translated into real-world health care, delivering better services and treatments for patients. B.C. is becoming a global hub for life sciences,” Dix said. “Today’s announcement will help us to continue to attract the best scientists and researchers to our province, as well as doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.”

He says the centre will include infrastructure for emerging technology, such as 3D bio-printing, research data and analytics, corporate services, medical offices for doctors and specialists, and a 49-space child-care centre. This will allow “the hospital to do more for patients,” Dix adds.

Fiona Dalton, CEO of Providence Health Care, says the new centre will give top talent a space to develop innovation in health care.

“It will facilitate the continued development of our learning, health system with patients, clinicians, scientists, researchers, and health-care leaders working together to discover,” Dalton said.

The clinical support and research centre will be approximately 34,400 square meters and will be connected with a sky bridge to the main St. Paul’s Hospital on the Jim Pattison Campus.

The province will pay for $331.7 million of the cost of this project, while Providence Health Care, the ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund, and the St. Paul’s Foundation will cover the rest.

“This new research centre will help define the future of medicine,” Premier David Eby added Thursday.

“With 49 daycare spaces in it, is not just a building. It is the future of healthcare in British Columbia and it is the future of healthcare internationally, as we take our place, as we should have a long time ago.”

I'm betting that's a bit of a placeholder. Get your name there for a cool $20M donation to the hospital.

Providence Health Care has selected Diamond Schmitt Architects and Kirsten Reite Architecture as the Prime Consultant team to lead the design of the CSRC. In addition, PCL Construction has been selected as the Construction Manager to oversee all pre-construction and construction aspects of the Project.

We’ll complete the hospital’s 11-storey structure, a major milestone we’re excited to celebrate in the summer.
Work has started on the exterior of the building, including windows, insulation, and cladding.
Important mechanical and electrical infrastructure is being installed, like piping, plumbing and wiring.
Full-scale room mock-ups will be built inside the hospital, with real walls, flooring, fixtures, and equipment to help align all teams before the rest of the hospital is built.

It sounds like the CSRC may be built with mass timber to some extent.

The base of the Clinical Support and Research Centre will be comprised predominantly of reinforced concrete.

The facility is being designed and will be constructed at a time when many carbon reduction and emissions controls goals are meant to be achieved.

“As such, it will be part of the solution for not only the City of Vancouver’s carbon reduction goals, but also those of the province of British Columbia and Government of Canada,” says Bagan.

“Based on this, the design team is considering many energy efficiency measures, climate resilience and embodied carbon, in addition to the general health and wellness of the building’s occupants.”

The project will pursue LEED Gold certification.
