On the PacMutual building, there was an article the other day saying that the owners are getting more restaurants for the building, both on the Olive St side and along 6th. The India Bank is relatively new, so I'm not sure if they're going yet. They are taking out the Verizon store, which was a later addition and restoring a courtyard with outdoor seating.

LA Downtown News quotes a Chetrit spokesperson that the Hotel Clark will open in June. Seems optimistic to me, but that would be seriously awesome for the block.

^Very welcome news.

I'm shocked to actually hear anything from the Chetrit Group. Aren't they notoriously difficult to get in contact with?

June? Theres no way.

End of 2013 though is a possibility. Thats great to hear! If only they'd stop sitting on Giannini Place and help 7th Street make its way east through the desolateness that is the Jewelry District.

ask and ye shall receive.

actually, when I see all the effort of forumers to take update pics of dt, inc the recent ones from blackcat, pinkfloyd & boycott, &, before that, from hunterk & mojeda, etc, I feel the least I can do is add some overview maps of what's going on in the various parts of dt. I also want these images to remind ppl, certainly the ones who go cuz a new proj isn't taller or isn't to their tastes....& imply that's a lost opportunity that will long hurt the hood's urban potential....that there are still many, many, many, many more pieces of land throughout dt in great need of TLC.

btw, apex is the name of what was formerly the concerto tower at 9th & fig.

these don't include conversion projs, or rehabs of older bldgs, or smaller new projs, or new stores/restaurants....which are very important in their own right....or totally new projs that may be even more pie in the sky than a few of the ones I've already included. these are all from skycam images at maps.google.com...

^ dtla has come a long way, but the large number of properties that remain untouched & continue to need new devlpt or renovation....such as the clark hotel....must represent several decades worth of future ongoing changes. It would be welcome if that all occurs sooner rather than later. But to be as realistic as possible, many necessary new devlpt or clean up projs probably won't finally happen til around, as one example, 2030 or later. of course, I hope I'm being too cautious & that certain things will happen that greatly speed up the process.

fwiw, I thought the following should be added to this post....the footprint of the new apt proj going up on Fig across from the convention ctr on figueroa is surprisingly modest. That didn't stand out to me til I was working my little paint program trying to figure out the boundaries of the avant devlpt. by contrast, I suddenly realized I made the footprint of the santa fe proj in the arts dist way too large....made it stretch for like a hundred miles long. also, this is the first time I've ever known of a woman who has the first name of 'randy'.

If the interior work is really done, it could be open by June.

Nice one, citywatch!

In some restaurant news, from the LA Downtown News:

Prohibition Inspired Restaurant and Lounge Coming to Hill Street

Many restaurants have tried and died at Second and Hill streets. Now, get ready for a new contender. Signs for Ebanos Crossing have gone up in the long vacant space that most recently housed Pho Citi.

The restaurant/lounge will have a menu inspired by the Prohibition era and is scheduled to open in late spring, said Justin Shapiro, one of the New York-based owners of the establishment.

And...

New “Badass” Indian Restaurant Coming

We’ll never know if Gandhi would have approved, but he’ll sort of be there everyday when a new Indian gastro pub opens on Second and Main streets in April.

Badmaash, which means “badass” in Hindi is set to open next door to Pitfire Pizza in a few weeks. Father and son duo Chef Pawan and Nakul Mahendro are the owners of the upcoming eatery, which sports an image of Gandhi in hot pink sunglasses as its logo.

It seems DTLA isn't as much of a parking wasteland as some would think. In any case, there are other cities with much worse DTs when it comes to too many parking lots.

Really nice citywatch. The scope of development is really brought into focus. This boom will have alot more ground up work then the previous I believe.

Drove by the Hanover site at Olympic and Hill today. They've already started moving dirt. Not a ton of heavy equipment on site just yet, but from the looks of things, they should ramp up pretty quickly. There were several people in hard hats on site.
