Nice shots Tony! Market east just screams potential. The new developments there look great. The pedestrian plaza by moms needs to fill out a bit more, but seems to be coming along. Saw a new cafe is opening next to iron Hill. They were serving hot chocolate during the Christmas parade.

The inquirer building renovation looks really classy close up.

Wild to be on JFK bridge and see 6 different buildings going up. By next year, it will truly transform that area.

Cool so they can light up the corners on 2/3 of the building. Or am I missing something? Doesn't seem like it'll make much of an impact, though I hope I'm wrong.

It looks great from the street, but it is hard to see from a distance in the skyline

Each and all terraces on the corners has the lights. They only extend on the square floors of the tower, but should stand out from many spots. Hopefully they plan on lighting up the open channels on the angled roofs

There was a part of me hoping that this building would come down...as it is a better candidate than most to just bite the dust. But all things considered, it looks way better than what's there and certainly far better than I imagined it could look.

I used to work for Conrail, and as far as Pennsylvania Railroad legacy buildings go, I wouldn't miss this one at all (the stuff of real value was inside and stripped/sold long ago). That said, it's a amazing what a "re-skin" will do for even the ugliest box.

The building to its right always perplexes me. Why would you ever build something that has a solid concrete wall facing the street?

Was it a communications building at one point?

The 21-story Seven Penn Center at 1635 Market opened in late 1965 as the IBM Building (although there were other tenants too). Vincent Kling’s firm was the architect.

7 Penn Center aka IBM Building. I believe those are the elevator shafts [EDIT: Confirmed]. Plenty of windows on the other sides though, including on the that facing JFK Blvd (though that side was eventually obscured by the much later construction of 8 Penn Center).

That method contributed some major drama, as the scaffolding and propane tanks (used to help cure the concrete) burst into flames early on a Sunday morning.

Look closely and you can see all of the cranes. Chubb crane is behind One Commerce Square from the airport

So this means the design was intended as safety measures for IBM?

A another example of this is the AT&T communications building in Fitler square & the Verizon Tower in NYC

Not really anything to do with safety or security of the building contents in this instance. Keep in mind there are numerous windows on the other 3 sides of the building. For IBM this building housed mostly sales and administrative functions. Plus IBM was the lead tenant, but certainly not the sole tenant.
