For me, it's the continuous line of CharcWhites forming along Carling Avenue that I find depressing, most of them by my least favourite 'architectural' firm on Earth. Coming in from the West there will eventually be this dreary dark wall of charcoal brick you have to pass through.
I like density, but would it hurt them to use a little : red brick, glass, spandrel, aluminum panels, terracotta?
Edit: here is the first example I could find in the Canadian Proposals thread, and it's proposed for Waterloo, another city that can use some decent design. Why can't we have this kind of variety for our non-signature buildings? We know they'll be marketed and priced as 'luxury' anyhow....
