You can hope. I've given up hope. I certainly won't live long enough to see Carling turned into anything like what you are describing. The latest changes now have a pedestrian crossing at the foot of the WB 417 off ramp. I suppose I should be happy that they closed the EB 417 on-ramp from WB Carling or else all those residents in all the buildings built between Kirkwood and Merivale would have to cross 2 ramps on their walk to the grocery store.

I see a picture like this and all I can think of is how much Carling is begging for a BRT or LRT line down the median.

Yes Carling is such a good place to increase density and have a BRT or LRT linking to the Otrain at LF and Trillium line at Dow's Lake. A lot off development is happening along Carling lately and I hope it continues.

Crazy how much has been going up on Carling over the last 5 years, and without the City having to deliver a single one of the promised transit improvements.

Definitely a step in the right direction. There's LOTS more opportunity on Carling, for more density, added residential, street-fronting retail etc.

A road diet and reliable, segregated, frequent transit lanes would also go a long way.

This project is now at grade, about to rise above ground level.

I hate updates about these monstrosities. They are taking long enough that I have been able to convince myself that they'll never rise.

I don't think these will be THAT bad, plus it's badly needed density.
And eventually when the buildings go up at the old Saputo factory, they will barely be visable from the highway. I say, let them rise and add a few more along that corridor.

For me, it's the continuous line of CharcWhites forming along Carling Avenue that I find depressing, most of them by my least favourite 'architectural' firm on Earth. Coming in from the West there will eventually be this dreary dark wall of charcoal brick you have to pass through.

I like density, but would it hurt them to use a little : red brick, glass, spandrel, aluminum panels, terracotta?

Edit: here is the first example I could find in the Canadian Proposals thread, and it's proposed for Waterloo, another city that can use some decent design. Why can't we have this kind of variety for our non-signature buildings? We know they'll be marketed and priced as 'luxury' anyhow....
