10 year ago today I was probably sitting in my college dorm on my computer... well, let's just forget about that one

And now my twenties are soon approaching an end...

Rockyi, how long were you a lurker before you joined? It seems as if I waited around a year before I joined.

Vid, that's just sad, but I'm such an old fart that I remember the internet before porn, when computers didn't boot to the operating system, and when Prodigy was the top internet provider! Although, chat rooms were pretty saucy even back in 1989-1990. But our old IBM PS/1 was still going strong ten years later when it was finally given away (along with it's dot-matrix printer).

I first found this site early in '03....maybe Feb. or March, I was researching family history and googled certain Quebec cities and towns and found you guys. I was pretty much hooked from the beginning but didn't think I had anything of value to add so I just lurked. I finally joined just to give my response to a forumers nasty remarks about my hometown(s). I can make fun of it, Montecarloss (or whatever his name was) can't. I thought I would make one comment and that would be it, but, it's hard to stop after only one comment, especially since I didn't discover the Skybar until after I joined.

It's always some point about your hometown that causes one to make the next step. I wonder whatever happened to Montecarloss?

Meanwhile in Indianapolis. Had a funeral for a fallen police officer yesterday. The procession was for miles starting in downtown en route to the cemetery. Then I happen to see this in the news. Impersonating a police officer when you are surrounded by literally 100's of them isn't the brightest idea!

Quote:

On a day when most of Indianapolis was mourning a fallen hero, police said, one man was attempting to pull off a twisted ruse.

Minh Nguyen, 38, was arrested Thursday outside the Northwest District headquarters of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department on preliminary charges of impersonating a public servant and theft.

The arrest came amid a day-long series of events memorializing the life and sacrifice of IMPD Officer Rod Bradway, who was laid to rest late Thursday at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Police detained Nguyen shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday, according to an IMPD report. He was driving a black 2012 Dodge Charger equipped to look like a patrol car, police said, and wearing a police uniform with patches and a badge.

An IMPD officer, Lt. Scott Robinett, recognized Nguyen as someone he had warned previously about impersonating law enforcement, police said.

On Thursday, Nguyen wore a duty belt that “included two visible firearms, radio with shoulder microphone, two sets of handcuffs and a Taser,” an IMPD report states. “(He also had) property stolen from the city of Indianapolis, to wit: an orange fuel card holder with ‘Property of the City of Indianapolis’ on it, several IMPD property room slips and envelopes (that) are not items the public has access to. (He) is not authorized by IMPD to have or use any IMPD property.”

Police also discovered an AR 15 rifle in Nguyen’s car, said IMPD Officer Michael Hewitt.

so i'm moving to the suburbs...but i'm moving from a fucking farm that ive been living on for 4 months (partially) to a 1910 era urban suburb that's closer to my job than my old house (my ex girlfriends house)...so i guess that's ok. in most midwestern cities it would be well inside city limits, so i tell myself. it does have a light rail stop, unlike my old deeper city home.

i've been commuting 1.5 hours both ways for four months, at this point i'd settle for anything, although i dont feel like im settling. it is into a mid century apartment building, so that will be different than all of the old stuff i've been living in for years.

i'm looking forward to doing a photohread on my new home after i somewhat settle in.
