That style of building (pasteboard house-but-big) is one of the worst things going in Canadian architecture.

The general area around Pearson Airport has pretty much became one giant hotel parking lot (as expected).

Obligatory Hilton Garbage Inn.

A good example of how that kinda structure doesn’t work is Casino Rama.

CampusOne Student Residence is pretty awful (some people call it the Borg Cube).

It's actually a disease that has spread north from the U.S.

I betcha it's probably one of the largest concentrations of hotel rooms in the GTA, rivalling downtown Toronto.

And it's extremely dynamic in terms of business meetings, conferences, seminars, etc.

Some people just fly in, stay in one of these hotels where their event is taking place, and fly back out without seeing anything else in the city.

They're also cheaper than downtown hotels so tour groups often stay there. Although they at least tend to go into the city.

On school trips to Toronto my kids have gone on, they've always stayed at hotels near Pearson, even though these were motorcoach trips that had nothing to do with the airport.

Yup I have noticed that. I have actually stayed in one of those hotels during a flight delay.

If you scroll around you’ll find yourself at an ugly retail complex complete with multiple chain restaurants and a big box Cineplex. Than if you really wanna get a feel for the ugliness of the area, they also have a giant factory district down the street. It’s existence is mainly for tourists who need to rest on the way up to Niagara and Toronto. They just built a Courtyard Marriott hotel up by those soulless office buildings which looks grey and soulless.

And it’s so odd and jarring too, one minute you’re in a giant retail plaza with hotels and office buildings as far as they eye can see the next minute your in a factory district.
Exactly what I am talking about. I know that stretch of the QEW very well.

Like these? https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0173...7i13312!8i6656

3 levels, with walkout level in back but mostly aluminum siding, on an undersized lot, with driveways taking up too much space. Deadzones.

I've been in all of them at one point or another due to delayed/cancelled flights (connecting in Toronto).

Hilton obviously has a thing against decent architecture, look at the one in London Ontario. It looks like it jumped out of a dystopian novel.
