Option 1 is the best for sure. It's such a prominent site and the tie in with the redeveloped greenway would really pull both sides of Metrotown together. I'd be shocked if isn't the winning proposal.

Personally this feels a bit like the Burnaby Mt. Gondola three "options". Option 1 is the obvious easy choice, and the other two are just there to give an illusion of choice. Might be just me though.

Apropos.....

....especially seeing as (even with this small sample size of people who've responded here so far....), almost everyone seems to have come to the same "choice" and option.

The 4 section tower reminds me of the Foster proposal for 2 WTC.
One tube for each of Burnaby's 4 Town Centres!?

One can dream that it will be this iconic of a design.

any option that adds more sports fields would be amazing. Except gravel.

Probably not possible on any of the options. I don't think Bronson Park adds any new net parkland.

At any rate, it's nice to see Derek Corrigan's rainy day fund actually being used on something.

We are creating a new Official Community Plan (OCP) for Burnaby to set the long-term vision for managing the city’s growth. Burnaby 2050 is a multi-year process that involves engaging community members in dialogue about the future of Burnaby.

There's an online survey open until mid July.

This one is back after a few years on the backburner, the developer should still be Matchpoint.
Are you sure? It's on Peterson's website, but not on Matchpoint's.

You're right, Peterson took it over at some point.

“Neither Matchpoint Development, which owned the building or Peterson Commercial, which now manages it, have communicated to tenants how long the job will take, under what conditions they can return," said Serena Lowe, a tenant in the affected building and member of Dow Avenue Tenants Group. "The timelines and priorities continue to shift and get extended, with no end date in sight ”

Not sure about the size of the podium this far from the station, but I welcome one of the last lots on Beresford to finally get built. I just hate the current trend of putting these 6-storey buildings in between all the towers. They always feel so forced.

Speaking of the old location, what would they do with the old civic lands on Kensington?

Turning it into residential might not be the smartest idea, as it would just fill Hwy 1 with even more cars.
It doesn't have good access outside of the auto-centric infrastructure there.

Maybe industrial/office?
That would be interesting.

i wouldnt do residential there, not a good spot for it. living next to a freeway is not ideal for mental/physical health, and it is more disconnected from transit which should be the focus of development these days.

probably just office. i could see Burnaby just leasing out the buildings for the years after they move.

are there any civic facilities Burnaby needs more of? they're building a new aquatic centre with olympic sized pool. new ice rink. the area is full of community centre space already as well.

do we know if the police would move? i could see them staying there and ending up with a larger police facility. as the city grows it will naturally need more cops & space for them. eventually Burnaby will need a municipal police force. the RCMP should not be in municipal policing, nor should they be policing large cities, which Burnaby already is.

Office would compete with the town centers, though.

There's also tons of land for the sports facilities on Burnaby Lake, as well as surface parking (the eastern part of Burnaby Lake- where there's the rowing Pavillion, isn't a park.
They really don't need more for sports facilities.
Even the new pool facility is being built on top of the old one.

New industrial land for dealerships and warehouses could compensate for losses in Brentwood/Gilmore/Sperling.
So maybe something like this eventually (once all the civic facilities are moved to the town centers- dunno about the police, it might stay there.)

Burnaby's downtown is having some nice height variance and architectural difference to it. Looking very impressive while landing on YVR!

Still seems to be missing a lot of middle.

Laneway houses coming to Burnaby. 10 years behind but better than never. I really hope the Province steps in and allows 4-6 plexes at SFH.
