I'm sure they have plenty of stats to back up the statement that more towers=more crime, right?

Other than the obvious correlation that more people=more crime...

I wonder if Mr. McSavaney would support depopulating Burnaby to reduce the crime rate. After all, fewer SFHs, less crime!

I have the nasty feeling that we're going to see more of this crowd as Burnaby starts running out of lowrises, warehouses, diners and car dealerships to redevelop...

Per that person's logic, I suppose DTES must be filled with cloud-reaching skycrapers.

I mean, I was laughing when I read the obviously nimby opinion piece, but it is true that Burnaby and all of Lower Mainland is getting very packed and crime is on the rise, but that has little to do with tall towers he so clearly hates. I wonder if this guy has submitted similar letters in the past to at least be consistent.

Ok so slightly OT for the Burnaby Updates thread...

I'm sure we all know someone with Nimby tendencies. In my case I noticed it with my father, so I started telling him about proposals (mostly in Surrey Central but also in some other areas he knows), sending him posts from here and news articles. That way he knows what's happening instead of suddenly finding a new building appearing out of nowhere (vs what the area used to look like in 'the old days').

Fast forward to now. He's actually interested in what's going on and sometimes asks if I've heard about what's going on at X location (sometimes there's been a proposal I've been able to send him). He loves the drone shots that a few of you have posted on here. He's also laughed over the neighbours reactions to Sen̓áḵw and them complaining to the CoV about it.

I've also calmed down fears in some of my neighbours who start to get all Chicken Little when they hear something about how somewhere they go is about to change. I've generally been able to tell them what's going to happen - and that it's not going to happen overnight. They still might be a little grumpy about the change but they're far less freaked out about it.

Meanwhile, someone close to me in North Vancouver has been only getting more and more involved in "community awareness/activism" NIMBY groups here on the North Shore and you can only push back so much against their favourite Facebook groups and weekend social groups.

I didn't know someone could be a NIMBY towards a recycling depot, but I'm now aware that some people here in North Vancouver believe that the Return-It on Brooksbank is importing crime to the North Shore.

7730 Sixth St.: Six-storey non-market rental building with child-care facility

4049 Hastings St.: Six-storey mixed-use rental apartments with commercial uses

good to see these 6 storey proposals on these major streets in Burnaby .... the one on 6th is a redevelopment of a older Metro Vancouver Housing townhouse project >> http://www.metrovancouver.org/servic...astburn-square

I'm happy to see this as for the longest time it seemed like low rises in Burnaby were capped at 4 storeys.

4 months ago, the landlord tried to lease me the top floor of this building with a demolition clause. lol

I would be shocked if they allowed 6 stories here.

I think C8 Urban Village still has a 4 storey cap?

Honestly, the 4 story buildings are fine, they just need to allow then on either side of the main arterials, not just right on the arterials.

I know, if you can't afford a multi-million dollar house, your proper place is as a noise and pollution shield for your betters, but still, allowing 4 story buildings for one block on either side would be a huge improvement, better than just building taller on the arterials.

It looks as if the 2020 Rental Use Zoning Policy allows rezonings to 6-storey rental buildings in the C8 zones. 4095 East Hastings was considered by Council last month, and the public hearing is on the 28th March.

Burnaby ice rinks. Turns out they've used lumber from Europe, that's why it's running behind.

Keltic Development has submitted their new rezoning app for 4444 Kingsway.

https://pub-burnaby.escribemeetings....cumentId=65911

Suggests the tallest tower will be 59 storeys, so not nearly as tall as what Bosa had envisioned at 70-storeys. They are however retaining Gensler as the architect.

Another old building on 6630 Telford Ave near Maywood being demolished. And this is what's coming: https://www.da-architects.ca/our-pro...elford-avenue/
