The Maritimes have rainier summers and much brighter winters than here. There isn't really a time of year when it feels like you'd suddenly settling into a protracted dark period in the same way as in the Pacific Northwest. On the flip side there isn't any time of year where you can rely on it being dry.

This year with the forest fire smoke around August it really felt like the end of summer was snatched away without much nice weather after, even though November has been pretty good. Even if it's relatively warm and sunny in November here the sun barely gets up into the sky.

It's true the seasons are shifted with the coldest time being December-January here versus January-February in NS. IMO the long cool-ish early spring period is the most annoying thing about weather in NS (not the extreme cold or heavy snow that some people believe in as a stereotype). The worst common Vancouver weather is when it's raining for 27 days in November and looks like twilight at 2 pm, and the worst Halifax weather is when it's April 20 and it rains for days while the temperature sits at +5 ("it's the 107th of Smarch").

Often true, though this November has actually been pretty dry so far for Vancouver I question whether the local ski hills are going to be meet their November opening dates with the low level of snow they have.

Absolutely, but the worst of it for me is the dampness. That cold weather just above freezing when it's wet and/or damp and you just always feel cold. Yuck!

Overcast, cold, mostly not windy today, though, with a bit of sun just before sunset. Not too bad overall. I'm still mostly wearing a t-shirt or sweater with a fall jacket. Hat and gloves for sure, though.

Winnipeg has broken records for the past two days with temps reaching over 9C. A cooling down period is now underway though with closer to seasonal temps in the forecast.

Some Edmonton snow stats.... it's pretty rare for us to have no snow on the ground at this time of year.

-The last time we had no snow on the ground by November 21st (today) was 2015. Made it to November 25th that year.

-The last time we had no snow in the month of November was 2008. (December 5th)

-2007 first snowfall on the ground December 3rd.

-2005 Last time we had no snow on the ground for Christmas

-6 times in the past 25 years there has been no snow on the ground today. (Nov 21st)

-This year looking to be the 4th November since 2000 with no snow on the ground in November.

-The latest “snow on the ground” in Edmonton records was 1977. When there grass was bare until Jan 13th

There’s a blanket of snow this morning, about 3-4 cm. It’s melting as I speak but it will probably survive a couple of days. There’s definitely a sense that winter is around the corner.

The dunderheads here in my part of town dump a couple of pounds of salt at an intersection in a nice neat pile. Makes a nice melted hole for one car.

Beautiful sunshine yesterday with a high of 4.1 and a low of -2.5 at 4 am this morning. Currently we're at 3.8 under a grey sky. Today feels cold whereas yesterday felt warm. Incredible how sunshine can make so much difference with relatively little difference in actual temp.

I bought a used xmas tree at Habitat for Humanity and installed it outside yesterday. I had a bit of company in a submarine sitting just off shore. As I'm typing this I see the sub is heading into the narrows under the MacKay bridge. There's been a great deal of military activity on the basin this fall.

Would that not be fairly common for Calgary? Since they don't have a massive amount of snowfall every year, and since their winter temps can vary wildly.

Mostly cloudy and dry with a bit of sun and blue sky poking through.
Wednesday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 8 C, the low was 6 C.

I'm dealing with cancer right now so I can't get out and about like I used to.
I've always said that if it's not raining then it's a beautiful day.
So, I managed to go for a Seabus ride to the North Shore and then turned around and came right back.

Wonderful pics as always Mcminsen! Very sorry to hear about your cancer. You have my best wishes added to, I'm sure, all the other best wishes coming your way from all members on this site.

Our low temp here in the last 24 hrs. was 1.9 last evening at 10 pm and our high 10.3 at 7 am this morning. It was windy and rainy all night. It's foggy now but starting to lift. Forecast says we'll see sunshine for the afternoon. Temps will remain fairly mild until Saturday when the forecast high for the day is -4 which is a full 10 degrees below seasonal norm. Sunday we'll be back up into the plus temps.
