Yeah, there aren't many photos of the 'William Thomas Building', in its prime, out there on the interwebs.

Here's one from Historical Hamilton after they removed that horrible facade.

As for a photo when she was younger, better to search for Lister Block and look left. This one shows a roughly 50-year-old Thomas Building and this one is a postcard also from that era.

Ironically, this building is likely, off the top of my head, Thomas's least impressive piece of work. I'd be willing to bet he didn't even work on it personally, in fact. Probably one of his underlings. Anyway, Liuna did a great job on the Lister and I expect the same with their restoration of the facade.

awesome finds- true to your name - thanks! And yes it looks like there WAS a cornice on top, and that the building at the time closer matched the old lister block design than the new one.. very interesting!

I hope they add the cornice back to the new building (HINT HINT FOR ANYONE WORKING ON THIS PROJECT IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY)

lol..

and look at the building beside it - there were DORMERS on the roof! I was never awsre of that - those must have been long gone by the time our era rolled about..

If they replicate to the original, this will be an awesome back to the future experience!

Notice that nobody is saying 'let's wait 'til it's done before rendering judgement.' A rare treat in Hamilton - she already looks good.
This is so true. It's been a blast watching this project go up. Everything about it so far, has exceeded my expectations. The finishes are solid, the massing works wonderfully for the street, and it's moving at a consistent pace of construction.

I find it hilarious that this student rental project looks better and is moving faster than 95% of the condo developments currently under construction.

you got the one above kreskys in the works...

also I am so impatient to see the original facade go back up.. I really hope they are putting the original cornice back up on it too.. it's kinda hard to tell though as that area above where it would be is missing but you have cinderblocks going up on each side that was the height of it...

a cornice does show on this building.. not as nice as the original, but hopefully it's still part of the design..

Lookin' super.

But it's time to get rid of the Jamesville signs. That name never really took.

The residence definitely starting to shape up. Does anyone know how much it'll cost to rent a room? would it be sort of an apartment type 2-3 bedroom rented out for students similar toe the West Village Suites on Main St. West near MAC?
