Wow, this thing was supposed to be about the size of the base of the tower. Sounds like they are serious with the aggressive timeline.

Nice looking tower for the Arts District it will bring in about another 500 residents to the area. The base will include retail which is essential at that particular spot of the district near most of the art venues.

You are right; I was a little over-exuberant in my statement there!

But yes we need more development in the CBD/Arts District, and yes lots of mid-rise, brick-based, loft style apartments in Deep Ellum.

What's best for Deep Ellum is for the preservation of all the century old brick industrial blocks. That's what's best for Deep Ellum.

It's going to be interesting seeing how everything pans out with I-345. From what I've been hearing, the city is seriously considering demolishing the entire stretch of freeway and reconnecting the CBD with Deep Ellum. There are also proposals being thrown around about building over the I-30 corridor canyon that severs the CBD from the Cedars with a giant park such as the Klyde Warren park. Keep your eyes on the Cedars, that's where the next big spill of development will ignite.

I can't wait for the day when we will see towering skyscrapers stretching from the CBD and into the heart of the Cedars.

New residential tower project eyed for Uptown tract near Cityplace

Quote:
Now StreetLights is looking at another Uptown tower site off Hall Street near Cityplace.

The developer has held meetings with neighbors in the area about constructing an apartment tower at Hall and Howell Street next to the Emanu-El Cemetery. The property is now occupied by small houses.

Cemeteries are on three sides of the tract.

Another parking garage in the works at Dallas’ Victory Park

Quote:
So Victory Park is planning to build a second new parking garage at the south end of the project on Continental Street, according to plans filed with the City of Dallas.

The 228-space garage will also include ground floor retail space. The planned garage is just a couple of blocks from where Victory Park manager Estein & Associates and Florida-based Lennar Multifamily Communities are planning to begin construction this year on a high-rise apartment building with a movie theater and retail on the lower levels.

Fort Worth's South Main and Pennsylvania street intersections is going nuts recently.

1 & 2- Victory Medical Center, 3 floor hospital over two blocks. Currently under construction and topped out.

3 & 4- Highpointe on S. Main apartments, 227 units, 4 is preserved historic building implemented into project. Currently in demolition phase, a 1 floor warehouse was previously on the block

5- existing historic brick structure, to be restored and possibly include 2-3 floor mixed use building build on remainder of block.

6- Mostly empty block with existing 1 floor building, owner recently was approved for zoning change for maximum mixed use density.

7- Existing 2 floor warehouse type building, proposed upper floor residents and seeking grocer tenant for ground floor.

It's all being tied in by the South Main street makeover, which stretches further north and south than this picture shows. (rendering top right)

According the numbers provided by the article, it would equate to about 63,000 sqft. Very glad that Ft Worth will have a significant highrise development within Downtown. Hopefully this can generate interest from other developers to propose additional highrise projects throughout Downtown.

Should be interesting to see what happens with Ft. Worth over the next couple of years and I am sure other developers will be watching. You have the news of Radio Shack wavering out there. Not sure what that will do to the office market in / around downtown Fort Worth with their headquarters being next to downtown. Nevertheless, Ft. Worth has traditionally had a tight office market with not too much being built ground up in downtown except Pier One and Radio Shack.

Plans for an upscale boutique hotel in Uptown are moving forward now that developers have incorporated millions of dollars in suggestions from neighbors and an area residents’ group.

The official announcement is expected next week.

The Dream Hotel is going to be a nice addition to that area. I hope it creates more demand for hotels in that part of Uptown.

Dallas also started heavy construction work on a few redevelopment projects I thought were stalled. Keep in mind that these are all redevelopment projects that are happening in the CBD and Cedars. It's always good to see big projects like these going on and putting life into these dead buildings. It will definitely raise the value of the urban core.

The bolded are recent updates on the statuses of the projects.
Under Construction

Statler Hilton Complex: mixed use development/restoration
Butler Brothers: mixed use development/restoration

1600 Pacific: residential/hotel
1512 through 1516 Elm: residential/restoration
